Great Gable, Kirkfell, Pillar, Scoat Fell, Steeple and Red Pike
There are several routes up Gable from Wasdale Head but in view of the strenuous nature of the rest of the walk I chose the simplest.
This is the least visited of the peaks on this route and one can contemplate the best of the view, Great Gable (photo) and the Scafells, in relative peace and quiet.

Gable's marriage in 1939 to his third wife, actress Carole Lombard, was reportedly the happiest episode in his personal life, but it ended with her death in a plane crash in 1942.
She was the mother of Gable's posthumous son and only legitimate child, John Clark Gable, born in 1961; she also had two children from her third marriage, Joan and Adolph Spreckels 3rd known popularly as Bunker.
Gable died in 1960 of a massive heart attack in Los Angeles, at the age of 59.

Great Gable earned some useful revenue operating on from Ruddington to Rushcliffe Halt on Bank Holiday Monday August 26th when she hauled the 11.30, 13.10, 14.30, 15.30 and 16.30 departures.
Great Gable was now leading the pair so she was started up for the run down to Ruddington, departing Loughborough at 21.10 and arriving at Ruddington at 21.50.

Leave the gully now and ascend the wall opposite to reach a ledge called the 'Dress Circle' which is a great place to rest and observe climbers on the Needle.

D4 Great Gable was one of the ten pilot scheme locos of the 'Peak' design, a class which later totalled 193 members, although with three different types of electrical equipment.
But Great Gable survived, it was renumbered 44004 in April 1974, and along with two class mates, it ran until November 1980.
The engine was on loan to the Great Central for a couple of years.

The walk towards Green Gable is easy enough and even through the mist the line of the broad path upwards was visible in the snow.
I started to walk up towards Great Gable but knowing that there is a steep scramble ahead I decided to put my crampons on just in case.
The summit of Great Gable is a special place for me and the conditions were perfect but I eventually had to make my way down, I must remember the day will be short and not to try any clever routes.

Moses Trod, the high-level path that skirts the base of Great Gable's impressive north face (Gable Crag), owes its existence to a colourful quarryman known as Moses Rigg.

A misty ascent of Great Gable was made on Remembrance Day by a dozen members of the OFC.
Although the weather was damp and grey the spirit of those on the ascent was not to be dashed.
On the ascent of Green Gable a walker collapsed and had to be airlifted out by the MRT.

Clark Gable is the epitomy of greatness in acting...and he is the ultimate in sexy men...i would love to find a man that sexy and confident.
I wouldn't say that Gable was a great actor but, he was a great screen personality during a special era in Hollywood.
For me Gable never went out of fashion, his character would be as applicable today as it was in the thirties.
