The 14-member Great Lakes Valley Conference has made its name throughout the last 27 years as a power in NCAA Division II basketball.
The formation of the GLVC can be traced as far back as 1972 when the athletic directors of three member schools - Kentucky Wesleyan, Bellarmine and Indiana State University at Evansville (now the University of Southern Indiana) - began preliminary discussions about forming a basketball conference.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and the Council of Presidents have announced that Drury University (Springfield, MO), Rockhurst University (Kansas City, MO), and the University of Missouri-Rolla (Rolla, MO) will join the league for the 2005-06 academic year.
The GLVC last expanded in 1995 when the University of Missouri-St. Louis joined as the league's 12th member.
The current membership in the GLVC includes five of the league's charter members — Bellarmine University (Louisville, KY), Kentucky Wesleyan College (Owensboro, KY), Saint Joseph's College (Rensselaer, IN), the University of Indianapolis (Indianapolis, IN), and the University of Southern Indiana (Evansville, IN).

 UMR News and Research: UMR leaving MIAA for Great Lakes Valley Conference
The current membership in the GLVC includes five of the league's charter members Bellarmine University (Louisville, Ky.), Kentucky Wesleyan College (Owensboro, Ky.), Saint Joseph's College (Rensselaer, Ind.), the University of Indianapolis and the University of Southern Indiana (Evansville, Ind.), who along with Ashland University formed the GLVC in 1978.
It is a conference that has schools near or in all of a number of major media markets in the midwest, including St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincinnati and Evansville.
I have a great deal of respect for the membership and those individuals that serve as institutional representatives.

A member of the Heartland Conference since 1999, Rockhurst will be one of three new members of the GLVC, along with Drury University (Springfield, Mo.) and the University of Missouri-Rolla, while increasing the conference membership to 14 schools.

This year, Medina led UMSL with 277 kills on the season, averaging 3.15 per game, and she was third on the team with 255 digs, averaging 2.90 per game.
Medina led both the team and the conference in service aces, averaging 0.53 per game, totaling 47 service aces on the year and had a season best five aces in a match against Aquinas.
Since joining the Great Lakes Valley Conference for the 1996 season, Medina is the fifth UMSL volleyball player to receive all-conference recognition.

KWC also became the all-time winningest Division II team, won the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title with a record 19 wins in 20 contests, started and ended the season ranked No. 1, continued the nation’s longest home court winning streak with 39 victories and finished No. 3 in the nation in attendance (3,850).
They won both the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season and the inaugural tournament championship, advanced to the NCAA championship game and earned a No. 3 national ranking in the final poll.
For his efforts, Harper was selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year, and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year honors.

(10/18) The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Bojan Jovicic (Milwaukee, Wis.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference 2006 Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s John Matthews (Edwardsville, Ill.) has been announced as the recipient of the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Northern Kentucky was a unanimous pick to claim the GLVC East Division in a poll of the league’s head coaches, while Southern Indiana was the coaches’ choice to top the GLVC West Division.

The Panthers won the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 18-2 record and marched to the NCAA Division II national championship game, the Panthers sixth straight appearance in the national title game.
He also was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2003 for the fifth time in seven seasons.
It was his second NCAA title in three seasons at KWC, and for his coaching he was the consensus selection for National Coach of the Year.

Louis, Mo. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference released the list of Academic All-Conference selections for the 2004-05 academic year, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis had 35 student-athletes from all 11 athletic teams honored by the conference.
The women’s tennis team had the highest percentage of its roster receive academic recognition, as half of the six student-athletes on the team were named academic all-conference and the women’s basketball team had five of their 11 student-athletes honored.
There were two student-athletes, seniors Josh Thomas (baseball) and Ashley Richmond (volleyball), earned GLVC Academic All-Conference honors for the fourth straight year, receiving that honor in each of their four seasons competing at UMSL.

The girls began their appearance in the GLVC contest seeded against Lewis University on Thursday, March 2.
The first half proved to be an even match between the Flyers and the Miners with the score tied a total of four separate times in the first 20 minutes.

Three players from the Rockhurst Hawks men’s soccer team were named to the All-Great Lakes Region team.
The Hawks ended their season with a 15-5-1 mark, a Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship and a trip to the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championships for the third time in four years.
Leboo led the Hawks with 19 goals and 43 points and was named Newcomer of the Year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
