NT Times doesn't link to anyone because they'd be linking to a lot of competition (other papers).
Sure, nytimes.com can link out when relevent within the story, let readers comment and interact more, but for the most part the concepts of the site are completely different and are very apples-oranges for this sort of comparison.

You can listen to some great marketers like Jeff Paul, Jim Fleck and Mal Emery for free as I stream them on the site and at the same time pick up the ebook from Brad Callon which is great value.
Link building has been one of my weakest point and is especially difficult when trying to get links for business websites.
