The parish of Great Malvern formerly included the hamlet of Guarlford and the chapelry of Newland, and stretched from the River Severn on the east to the Malvern Hills on the west.
The town of Great Malvern is situated in beautiful woodland scenery at the foot of the Worcestershire Beacon and the North Hill, the two highest peaks at the northern end of the Malvern range; the former reaches a height of 1,395 ft. and the latter 1,307 ft. above the ordnance datum.
Great Malvern, Christ Church.—In 1911 Miss Emilia Lucy Gordon, by her will proved 28 September, bequeathed £200 consols, the annual dividends of £5 to be applied towards the coal and blanket fund, to be distributed at Christmas to deserving poor.

 Great Malvern Priory Information
Great Malvern Priory, in Malvern, Worcestershire, England, was a Benedictine monastery c.1075-1540 and is now a parish church.
The Priory was built for thirty monks on land belonging to Westminster Abbey.
The great square central tower is very similar to that of the nearby Gloucester Cathedral; it was built by the same masons.

 The Malvern Hills
Great Malvern has a host of Georgian and Victorian buildings around steep sloping streets probably it's most important attraction is the Great Malvern Priory founded in 1085AD although mainly 15th century it has a collection of stained glass that is only bettered by York Minster, it's north transept window being a gift from Henry VII.
Probably Malvern's most famous son was Edward Elgar who is said to have composed much of his music while walking these hills and is buried at St. Wulstan's churchyard.
Today Malvern is still famous for it's spring water that owes it's purity to the hard rocks from which it flows, a million bottles are sold throughout the world every year.

However, as noted in the introduction to this chapter, there are great dangers in using negative evidence in the study of ceramic building materials and although likely it should not yet be assumed that late 16th century bricks and flat roof tiles were not being transported over similar distances to pottery vessels.
Malvern Chase produced a few knife-cut coxcomb tiles and Hereford A7b produced a few knobbed tiles but in general once a style was established in an area it continued to be produced there.
These tiles were possibly made in the Great Malvern fabric, although it might have been the same Malvern Chase fabric as was used for the Ewenny Priory tiles, which is of the same composition as that used for 16th century Malvern Chase pottery.

William the Conqueror confirmed these grants and was himself a benefactor, as also was Henry I. This connexion with Westminster led later on to a famous and protracted conflict between the bishops of Worcester and the Abbot of Westminster.
For a long time the bishop's right of visitation over Great Malvern had been unquestioned; on the election however of a prior John in 1242, the abbot opposed the bishop's action in confirming and installing the new superior.
The choir and tower of its church alone remain; portions of the monastery are incorporated in The Court, an old Catholic mansion, the seat of the Beringtons.

Malvern Priory (and choir) was chosen by TV producer Steve Benson for one of the BBC’s Advent King and the Kingdom services televised live on 12 December 1999.

As one enters the building one doesn’t immediately notice the grandeur of the interior until one turns the corner and is faced with the spectacular nave and east window.
Going back to Norman times, the Priory has been beautifully restored and its wonderful organ completely rebuilt by the firm of Nicholsons, coincidentally based in Malvern itself.

There was an open prize competition in one of the classic Victorian Mansions of Malvern, a competition for the best sixth form work from the schools in the area with a bursary of £500 was presented by Malvern Art Club, one of the oldest in the country.
Week end courses were run at Malvern Hills College and accommodation was arranged through the Tourist Office in the many comfortable hotels and B. and B’s in the area.

One of the oldest bells in Great Britain to be included in a ring, this bell was cast by John of Gloucester circa 1340-50.
This bell is the sole survivor from the original ring of six bells in Great Malvern Priory which was augmented to nine bells in 1887, the year of Queen Victoria’s jubilee.
At this time it was decided to melt the Virgin Mary bell down, but thanks to the timely intervention of local grocer James Nott, who rescued the bell, we are still able to hear it ring today.
