Great Valley School District is in orange in the eastern part of the county.
It is in the Delaware Valley region, in eastern Chester County, and provides education for the residents of Charlestown, East Whiteland, and Willistown townships, and the borough of Malvern.
However, in recent years, the school district population has been growing very rapidly, and a new middle school was built to compensate for the larger student body.

Great Valley High School and Great Valley Middle School are located on the township’s Phoenixville Pike.
The largest is the 32.2-acre Valley Creek Park, on the east side of PA Route 29, with tennis courts, a pavilion and picnic area with tables, barbecue pits, restrooms, and some play equipment.
A comprehensive upgrade to Valley Creek Park is under design now and is expected to incorporate an improved parking lot, playground, and tennis courts, as well as a new amphitheater.

Wissahickon School District, a suburban district in Montgomery County serving about 4500 students, is purchasing ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel for its entire fleet and has retrofitted 27 buses with particulate filters and 14 with diesel oxidation catalysts.
General McLane School District, a five-municipality rural district in Edinboro, Erie County, is retrofitting its fleet of 40 buses with diesel oxidation catalysts.
The School District of Philadelphia, the largest in Pennsylvania and seventh largest district in the country, is purchasing ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel for a portion of its fleet - about 123 school buses.

For instance, Great Valley paid 60 cents per gallon more for 500 gallons of B20 biodiesel fuel -- which is 80 percent petroleum diesel and 20 percent vegetable oils and animal fats -- than it would have paid for pure petroleum diesel, Ziegler said.

The Chester County Board of Commissioners recently recognized schools and school districts in the county that recycled the highest tonnage of recyclable material per person during the 1998-99 school year.
Top honors went to the Great Valley School District which recycled 40 pounds per person by collecting office paper, corrugated cardboard, aluminum cans, steel, tin and bimetallic cans, colored and clear glass bottles and jars and PET and HDPE plastics.
Upattinas School was the private/parochial high school winner with a recycling rate of 24.39 pounds per student and West Chester University won the college award by recycling 223.51 tons.
