It is one of the ironies for the Greater Manchester police that the preponderance of local MPs who have held ministerial office in the Home Department apparently does not help us in communicating the realities of the policing situation in Greater Manchester to the Government.
Greater Manchester police recruitment, which was previously 100 officers a month, was cut to 30 officers a month, and there is a complete freeze on recruitment this month.
Within that settlement, Greater Manchester police got £412.5 million in general grants, which is an increase on the previous year of 4.9 per cent., or £19.3 million, including an extra £800,000 from the amending report, which makes for an overall increase of 5.1 per cent.

LONDON: Police in Manchester have been directed not to arrest Muslims wanted on warrants during prayer times in the month of holy Ramadan.
Greater Manchester police confirmed the officers in the metropolitan division have been asked not to make planned arrests during the period for reasons of religious sensitivity.
A spokesperson of Greater Manchester police said the month of Ramadan is an important time of the year for members of the Muslim community throughout the world and it is important that normal, planned policing activities and operations are maintained, while ensuring that officers are professional and respectful to members of the community.

Greater Manchester Police saw the fur fly last weekend as two of it's top dogs won prizes in a national competition, which saw 24 four-legged crime fighters competing for first place.
The police dogs from eight forces took part in Greater Manchester Police's Annual Dog Competition on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June at GMP's dog-training unit in Chorlton.
All of the officers and their dogs have worked extremely hard to reach such a high standard, which ensures the police dogs are providing an excellent service to their local communities.

We were told by Police to move to the right of the bridge (near the corporate coaches), but this was also not moving as there were 30, 000 people trying to exit via one small bridge.
I spoke with a Manchester United supporter on friday night near to the ground who told me that the Club has just purchased a row of houses behind the South stand, which gives the club an option to further increase the capacity to something near to 100, 000 in future.
To be fair to the police, for a start I hardly saw any within the ground and the ones that were there were trying to do their best.

I also took part in the policing of the riots in the Moss Side area of Manchester in 1981 and also policed many industrial disputes around the country including Hadfields Steelworks in Sheffield and miners strike in Yorkshire, Warwickshire and more locally at flash points around the Manchester area.
This community policing role took a little bit of getting used to as it involved a more considered approach to policing an area and in many instances required resolution of matters affecting peoples quality of life rather than outright breaches of the law.
In August the same year I rejoined the Greater Manchester Police as a civilian Scenes of Crime Officer (now for reasons only known to some boss somewhere known as a Crime Scene Examiner) and again went back to work at my old desk in Salford.
