Greater Mexico City refers to the conurbation around Mexico City, oficially called Zona Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México or ZMCM (Metropolitan Zone of Mexico City) in Mexico.
The Federal Government, the Federal District, and the State of Mexico agreed on an official definition of the Metropolitan Zone of Mexico City, (Zona Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México, ZMCM), on December 22, 2005.
It consists of the 16 boroughs (delegaciones) of the Federal District, 40 municipalities of the State of Mexico, and one municipality of the State of Hidalgo.
