The Franks under Charlemagne from the west and the Bulgars from the southeast managed to overthrow the Avars in the early 9th century.
However, the Franks soon retreated, and the Slavonic kingdom of Great Moravia and the Balaton Principality assumed control of much of Pannonia until the end of the century.
Gradually Hungary, under the rule of the dynasty of the Árpáds, joined the greater West European civilizations.

Edmund Husserl [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Edmund Husserl was born April 8, 1859, into a Jewish family in the town of Prossnitz in Moravia, then a part of the Austrian Empire.
Although there was a Jewish technical school in the town, Edmund's father, a clothing merchant, had the means and the inclination to send the boy away to Vienna at the age of 10 to begin his German classical education in the Realgymnasium of the capital.
The Jewish community of Prossnitz had established a technical school in 1843, and it became a public school for all the town's children in 1869--one year before young Edmund Husserl was sent off to Vienna's Realgymnasium.

Moravians, Bulgars, Croats, Serbs, and Poles all sought to overthrow the Avars, but their power was not broken until Charlemagne.
The decline of the kingdom of the East Franks, after the death of Charlemagne, was favourable to the development of a great Slavonic power, and Swatopluk, ruler of Great Moravia, sought to establish a permanent Moravian kingdom, but the appearance of the Magyars put an END to these schemes.
Gradually Hungary turned into a large, independent kingdom which formed a distinct Central European culture with ties to greater West European civilisation.

900AD: King of Greater Moravia (in Czech lands), is destroyed by Magyar invasions, and also taken over is Slovakia.
Fleeing from this region after another sweeping offensive in or around 895-896, they entered the Carpathian Basin, familiar to them from their earlier raiding expeditions.
At the time of the Magyar Conquest, the area was inhabited mostly by Slavic ethnic groups; and Great Moravia, situated on the northern part of the Carpathian Basin, had been in a state of disintegration since the death of Prince Svatopluk.
