Greater Spotted Eagle, Aquila clanga and Lesser Spotted Eagle, Aquila pomarina should be moved either to join Long-crested Eagle, Lophaetus occipitalis or, perhaps better, all three of these species should move to Ictinaetus with the Black Eagle, Ictinaetus malayensis.
The eagle was on the Spanish shield untill 1978.
The eagle is also part of the coat of arms of Romania and the coat of arms and flag of Moldova.

This eagle lays 1-3 eggs in a tree nest.
This is a medium-large eagle, very similar to the Lesser Spotted Eagle, which shares part of its range in general appearance.
Its head and wing coverts are very dark brown and contrast with the generally medium brown plumage (Lesser Spotted has pale head and wing coverts).

A pale eagle was initially reported from Basai on 19 April 2003 by Aaditya and Debashish Chakravarti.
It was a large but small-headed eagle, with a longish bill and shaggy, almost vulture-like, nape.
Most people did think it was a Tawny Eagle, although the combination of features mentioned confirm it to be a second calendar year Greater Spotted Eagle of the pale fulvescens form.

Status:  The greater spotted eagle is classified as Vulnerable (VU C1) on the IUCN Red List 2004 and is listed on Appendix II of CITES.
A medium-sized eagle, the greater spotted eagle only has white spots as a juvenile, when they extend in bands across the upperwing.
By adulthood, the spots have faded leaving dark brown feathers across the head, body and wings, with slightly paler flight feathers on the upper side.

The extent of the home range, habitat utilization and time budget of the Lesser Spotted Eagle (LSE) were examined with particular regard to disturbance and landscape fragmentation in North-eastern Germany at the western edge of its range and, for comparison purposes, in Latvia.
The results, based on conventional VHF radio-telemetry backed up by visual observation, produced valuable data on home range coverage (which was significantly greater than recorded in earlier studies) and the characteristics and utilization of preferred hunting grounds.
The proportion was reversed in hunting over arable land because of the smaller percentage of grassland in Germany where cereal crops or set-asides were preferred for hunting in the vegetation period; hunting over rape and maize crops began generally after the harvest.

Both Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga and Lesser Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga are rarities in Spain, needing homologation by the CR/SEO national committee.
The thing is that having read your book, the bird seems to be rather pomarina-like, with all feathers rather new (hence juvenile) but rather pale median and lesser coverts and few spots, thus recalling pomarina.

The only unsuccessful targets were the Black Storks and Greater Spotted Eagle, but some other unanticipated rarities also showed up instead.
Somebody said the larger bird in the flock of Spoonbills was an Oriental White Spoonbill, but the bird had its bill tucked into its back the whole time I was watching it so I couldn't identify it as a Black-faced or White Spoonbill.
Since we couldn't find anything special mixed within the flock, we decided to head to "Awgu" for the Black Storks and Greater Spotted Eagle.
