The city of Greater Sudbury, Ont, the judicial seat for the District of Sudbury, lies 388 km north of Toronto at the crossroads of the TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY, highways 69 and 144, and the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific (CPR) railways.
The city of Sudbury's population was 2027 in 1901 and it doubled in each census decade up to 1931; as a result of a major amalgamation and annexation (1960) it rose to 80 120 by 1961.
