Guns 'n' Roses have always been a band surrounded by controversy with offensive lyrics, bad behavior, drugs, alcohol, violence and riots.
The release of their 'Greatest Hits' seizes the opportunity to follow in the wake of the current 'Darkness inspired rock-revival, catching the attention of a new generation of fans who missed out the first time round.

Rose legally bought the rights to the band's name "Guns N' Roses." Slash responded to the move by saying "...I was blindsided by it, more or less a legal faux pas.
Guns N' Roses were to hit the stage in Vancouver, but their opening concert was cancelled when Rose was stuck in the air due to mechanical problems with the plane.
Rose had tried to block the release of the LP but a federal judge ruled in favor of Geffen Records for its release.

Guns N Roses had some massive hits back in the 80's then again with the simultaneous release of their Use Your Own Illusion comeback albums in the early 90's, and were certainly worthy of their place as one of the biggest bands in the world during these times.
Their biggest hits from that era are all on this album which is great if your looking for something to play in your car and don't want to keep changing CDs and are morally opposed to burning your own album from your own copies of their other albums.
The album is not actually the greatest hits in their single released (as you hear on the radio) versions.

The Gunners greatest does however kick of with the two definitive rock anthems that simultaneously grabbed the "definitive rock anthem" torch off AC/DC.
Anyways, the album is worth 'Paradise City' and 'Sweet Child O Mine' being tracked together so you don't have to get off the pool table to fast forward.
Guns N Roses were/are a truly great band, especially before they got all slick with Bryan Adams' old drummer.

As predicted this will be a money making scheme from Geffen Records, welcomed or not, this album will most likely hit huge record sales in the anticipation of Chinese Democracy.

Greatest Hits is what it is...either take it or leave it.
Aborted album release dates, canceled tours, late onstage times when they do play live, riots when they decide they don't feel like playing...come to think of it, maybe the "new" Guns 'N' Roses isn't so different from the way the old Guns 'N' Roses were.
Sure, a couple of tracks are missing, but it seems these days, oh so few greatest hits collections get it all "right." What is here is good (for the most part), and they all were hits (for the most part).

For one of the least prolific bands in history, Guns 'N' Roses are doing a good job of padding out their discography what with their not one, not two, but three recent DVD releases and now this - a "Greatest Hits" package.
Then again, maybe it's just the record company who, as well as tiring of waiting for Axl to release a new album, surely must have heard the anticipatory "ch-ching" of cash registers ringing in their ears when they realised that glam metal was becoming ironically cool, courtesy of The Darkness.
To be fair, Guns 'N' Roses were (are?) a rung and a half above the other LA hair metal groups on the musical evolutionary ladder, a fact that was borne out by the way they were virtually unaffected when Nirvana inadvertently put their peers (Poison, Cinderella et al) out of business back in 1991.

I mean we had just discovered perhaps the greatest album of all time and Cynthia wanted us to cut it off due to a few of Axl's more colorful turns of phrase.
They were a band of street punks that hit their peak right off the bat with this album and unfortunately had no where to go but down after this.
Apparently he was a little less intimidated by the sound and aura of Guns `n Roses than me. To be sure, I loved the songs off "Appetite for Destruction," but somehow felt like bringing this album home from the store would get me in trouble or soil me in some way.

After several years of anticipation of a new album from Guns 'n' Roses, I'm sure the fans were extremely thriled with a 'Greatest Hits' album.
To prove this, I interviewed a GnR fan about this album: "Great!" He said, "I just bought an album with no new material on it, after waiting nearly eight years for its release." Also, putting three covers on a greatest hits album does not make you look good.
Best Songs: I didn't waste my time listening to this album as I have already heard every song off it (including the originals of the covers).
