Greatest Hits is a common name for a compilation album of an artist's most popular songs.
The first such album was Johnny's Greatest Hits by Johnny Mathis in 1958.

 Journey Album Reviews
Still, for all the album’s adventurous strengths, Journey are at their best as a highly commercial, supremely melodic pop rock band, and on the whole these songs simply aren’t as memorable as those on the preceding two albums.
Anyway, this album is a bit mellower than most Journey albums, and Cain's dated, tinkly keyboards are still a hindrance (by and large Journey's keyboards sound like their colorful album covers look).
Although Journey were album oriented artists (the cream of the crop being 1981’s Escape), their albums were generally highlighted by their singles, and as such this 2-cd retrospective should contain all the music that most non-hardcore Journey fans will need.

This album is very enjoyable both for Journey fans, and for people that try to get into them, as it features all their greatest hits, in friendly (digestible) versions.
This is my tenth review (yay), and its about a live album of Journey’s best songs, taken from different concerts in the early eighties, mixed a little, and released in 1998.
The album ends with a great, powerful ending, that reminds me of the outros of King Crimson albums: strong, powerful, almost destructive (and with a very brief “good bye” by Perry).

Included on this album were the singles "Only the Young" and "Ask the Lonely," both of which were soundtrack themes and had been removed from the Frontiers lineup before that album was released.
This album offered the group's first song ever to be nominated for a grammy award, "When You Love A Woman," and several rockers, "Message Of Love," "Can't Tame the Lion," and "Castles Burning," with the rest of the 14 track album being filled out with ballads and a catchy regae-ish toon.
Journey is very interactive on tour, and offers a lot of new material to the fans, some of which it may release if response is favorable.

 The Journey Zone
They released Greatest Hits, Live in 1998, a compilation of songs recorded live during the Escape and Frontiers tours; The Essential Journey, a new compilation, was released in October, 2001.
The new Journey was heard for the first time on one cut off the Soundtrack to the 1998 major motion picture release Armageddon called "Remember Me." The band released their latest album, Arrival, in Japan in October of 2000 and in the U.S. in April of 2001.
Despite the criticisms of the naysayers, what is evident about Journey as they approach their thirtieth year is that the band will continue to evolve and pass through new eras and release new albums, as it always has.

Journey’s initial style was progressive jazz-rock, complete with extended and improvised solo spots, a style much in evidence on their first three albums for Columbia Records.
Journey’s drummer, Aynsley Dunbar, was unhappy with this new style and left for Jefferson Starship, to be replaced by legendary drummer Steve Smith.
For Journey, transformation and renewal are an integral part of the creative force that has led the band on their remarkable "journey".

In fact, the music of Journey is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. Having gotten their start as more of a hard rock band earlier in the 1970s, they softened their sound with the addition of frontman and vocalist Steve Perry.
Journey’s Greatest Hits is a stereo SACD without a hybrid layer, so it will only play on a dedicated SACD player.

Journey had many assets, primarily in the musicianship department but also some pretty good songs, but they were never in any way important other than to their families.
Thinking about Journey a bit more; in Britain Journey never had a hit single, and they didn't tour the UK; the only time we ever heard them on the radio was when a late night rock show played one of their heavier numbers, like "Edge of the Blade" from "Frontiers".
Don't get me wrong, Journey was such a hugely popular wussy girl band that no rocker would admit he had ever listened to them, but their first 3 albums were guilty pleasure in morethan a few milk crates, stashed behind the Van Halen and Yes.
