Billy Joel wanted to connect with his audience, making attempts by visiting the grave of a famous Soviet songwriter, playing with local bands, and appearing on the country's television channels (Benson 16).
The pressure Joel was under came out during the tour when he yelled at a film documentary crew in the middle of a song for shining lights on the audience and allegedly shoved his piano offstage (Benson 16).
Joel's concern is for the children: "I see these children with their boredom and their vacant stares/God help us all if we're to blame for their unanswered prayers." He sang about a world being left for children with a destroyed natural state, no jobs, urban decay, and just "miles and miles of parking space".

Usually, I don't care for entire Joel albums, but this album only has one song on it I don't care for and that is When in Rome which just seems a bit irritating to be blunt.
I guess Billy didn't know his wife quite as well as he claimed in power driven opener, That's Not Her Style where he boldly proclaims the press doesn't know his wife as well he does, because she's his woman.
I thought maybe the problem was bad mastering on previous albums, but I bought a remastered version of his Live album from Russia and it sounds just as bad as the original release in the presentation.

This is a good complitation for Joel Fans : this collection is peritcularly for Joel Fans as it is the Greatest hits I & II & III with an extra CD of Radio interviews from the USA.
The classic album from 1984 : Billy is a classically trained pianist but he opted for a career in pop and rock music.
A Satisfying Album : This album was Billy's first of the 1980s and is an extremely eclectic collection of songs.

Joel performs a nice array of material, eschewing such obvious numbers as "Just The Way You Are" and "It's Still Rock 'N' Roll To Me" for lesser known songs like the excellent "Stiletto" and the tender "Honesty".
Joel is a first-rate live performer and Kohuept is a nice document of his skills as well as the famous tour.

The last song of Billy's Joel's album, "The River of Dreams" seemed to be somewhat appropriate.
Billy Joel would soon proclaim that his 13th studio album, 1993's "The River of Dreams" would be his last original Rock/Pop album he would do.
It picks up after the piano man hit his prime, and though the hits are more scattered out and fewer and farther between, there are still some classic songs on this disc that Joel fans will find essential to their collections.

Joel's first masterpiece, featuring "Piano Man" and "Captain Jack." Aside from those two songs, there are some great songs in "Travelin' Prayer," a pseudo-bluegrass tune, and the epic "The Ballad Of Billy The Kid" which remained in his live set up until his last show on new year's 1999.
One of the ideas behind a live album is to use the energy and rush of a live show to better the studio versions of an artists' songs, but there isn't one track on this album that I could say I prefer to the original, which means the live album has failed.
The sound on the album is more slick, and more beefed up and energized than any of his records before, and despite the sometimes annoying synth work, the sound has more life than any other studio record.

The release of "Billy Joel Greatest Hits Volume 3" was a way for Billy to provide some closure to the work included on the latter albums.
Billy sort of keeps to his promise on "These are the last words I have to Say" in that the new songs are written by other people.
This is the one Billy Joel album that disappoints me. With the exception of the new songs, all this collection does is provide closure - but it really isn't going to provide the value from a Billy Joel compilation you would expect.

He seems to be rescheduling his US tour dates according to the Sony Billy Joel Site, but there's not even a whisper of a mention of any European dates.
There's not a song on this album that is out of place or not up to the level of the others.
Billy's first compilation greatest hits album came out after 7 albums and it's got some of the best tracks of all the albums on it and it's a good way of finding out if you're going to like Billy's earlier stuff if you only know his later albums.

This is a very disappointing compilation of Billy Joel's career because it doesn't really represent the geneius of the man. sure 'Uptown Girl" "Piano Man" and all those "Hits" are here but not all of them and not all of Billy's best songs which featured on Greatest Hits Volumes 1,2 and 3 are here.
The true musical journey of Billy Joel is either through his original albums (cronologically) or through Greatest hits Volumes 1 and 2, Greatest Hits Volume 3, Billy Joel- the ultimate collection, The essential Billy Joel or 2000 Years- The millenium Concert.
His albums, completely different each one, are entire volumes of work, and to divide them into this 'best of' isn't doing Joel justice.

The first album I ever bought (at the tender age of 9) was the Billy Joel greatest hits volume 1&2 package.
I was raised on Billy Joel and James Taylor...he's my man. My roomies make fun of me for listening to him, but slowly and surely I am converting at least one of them.

Rocker Billy Joel, whose "Greatest Hits III" album was released in September, has set his sights slightly downtown from 52nd Street.
The composer/lyricist of albums including "The Stranger," "Nylon Curtain," "52nd Street," "Glass Houses" and "Piano Man," confirmed Oct. 8 that he is considering doing one and possibly two Broadway musicals -- one based on his existing songs, the other reportedly using an original score.
The story said Joel was weighing whether he would perform in the songbook himself.
