Queen labored long and hard over the record; according to many reports, it was the most expensive rock record ever made at the time of its release.
Because Queen embraced such mass success and adoration, they were scorned by the rock press, especially when they came to represent all of the worst tendencies of the old guard in the wake of punk.
Queen were at the height of their popularity as they entered the '80s, releasing The Game, their most diverse album to date, in 1980.

Hollywood have no plans for putting out a "Greatest Hits" set but they have said they will assemble a "Best Of" compilation that could cover the whole twenty years of the band's career.
From the outset, Hollywood said they intended to issue a series of compilations, among them a disco set, which could explain why they did not include the extended mixes of "Backchat, "Staying Power", Pain Is So Close To Pleasure" and "Breakthru" on their respective albums.
Hollywood have consistently ignored the views of the fan club, the public and the band, which is why so many fans regard their efforts with disappointment.

Queen never actually disbanded, although their last album of original material (not including compilations) was released in 1995, titled ''Made In Heaven'', put out four years after Freddie Mercury's death, and constructed from Freddie's final recording sessions in 1991, plus material leftover from their previous studio albums.
Queen is remembered for its never-seen-before theatrics, showmanship, camp and bombast so much that critics have since classified the band as a major player in the evolution of rock music.
Because of Queen's stringent Greatest Hits standards (if it wasn't in the top 30 in the UK they would not include it) it hasn't enjoyed a resurgence like many of their other classics.
