  Grebo
Grebo formed in September 1999, when Ben (Guitar, vocals), Joe 90 (Bass) and Blake (Drums) met up on their first day of college.
After building up a loyal local fanbase, and a reputation as one of Bristol's most high-energy live acts, the band played their first tour off the back of the EP, supporting Californian Pop Punks "The Ataris" in May 2001.
After a successful summer that saw Grebo secure a slot at Reading Festival, the band headed into the Studio once again to record a brand new 5-track EP entitled "Nothing New".

 Liberian-Grebo War of 1876
In the 1870s many of the Grebo chiefdoms, encouraged by foreign traders, had united in forming a "kingdom" in part of Maryland County that declared its independence from Liberia and resumed trading freely with passing foreign ships.
James Milton Turner, the American Envoy to Liberia from 1871-1878, was perceived by both sides of the national-political spectrum as intervening in the political battles between the Republican Party [dominated by the mulattos], and the Whigs [controlled by the dark-skinned Liberians].
In concluding a peace treaty with the Grebo chiefs, the American commander promised to use his influence to obtain for them a grant of citizenship that would enable then as Liberians to conduct trade on their own behalf without intermediaries.

Liberia: Hare We Go Again -- By Tarty Teh
If the Seaside Grebo lyric has any basis in the truth, then much – if not all – of the coastal Grebo land that was sold to the fl settlers from the United States was bought with smoked fish as the currency.
Another proof of this is the fact that Krus and Bush Grebos would refer to the foolishness alleged in the lyric as ‘‘boboa,’’ not ‘‘flu,’’ which is a corrupt form of the English word ‘‘foolish’’ in Seaside Grebo.
When we the Interior Grebos realized that we were – at least administratively – in the Grebo pool, we began to apply the label to ourselves without much reservation.

Bristol's Grebo have been together for about two years, have already released an album's worth of material on three EPs that highlight the self deprecating talent of songwriter Ben, a prodigious and prolific talent as well as playing anywhere that will let them set up.
Not unlike the almost-psychotic positively of The Ataris - who they supported last year - it's sad comment on the times that they have seen to deliver everything in a faux TransAtlantic accent, perhaps reasoning that if they sound American then maybe people will think they're American.
