Greek salad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Greek salad, χωριάτικη σαλάτα, (IPA: xor'ʝatiki sa'lata), "village salad", is a salad made in the Greek fashion and is one of the standard components of a traditional meal.
The true Greek salad is made of sliced or chopped tomato, cucumber, bell pepper and red onion, seasoned with salt, fl pepper, and oregano and dressed with olive oil and either lemon juice or vinegar; feta cheese, capers, and kalamata olives are common additions.
The term "Greek salad" is also used in North America, Australia, South Africa, and the United Kingdom to refer to a lettuce salad with Greek-inspired ingredients, dressed with vinegar and oil.

A salad is a food item generally served either before or after the main dish as a separate course, as a main course in itself, or as a side dish accompanying the main dish.
Salad also commonly refers to a blended food item— often meat, seafood or eggs blended with mayonnaise, finely chopped vegetables and seasonings— which can be served as part of a green salad, but is often used as a sandwich filling.
The "green salad" is most often composed of a mixture of uncooked vegetables, built up on a base of leaf vegetables such as one or more lettuce varieties, dandelion, spinach, or arugula.
