Green Anarchy - About Green Anarchy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Green Anarchy is a radical anti-civilization anarchist magazine produced by an anarchist collective in Oregon and is published twice a year.
Green Anarchy switched from a newsprint tabloid to a magazine format with issue #15/Winter 2004, so we could provide a more durable publication that is easier to read and to widen our circulation.
For those unfamiliar, Green Anarchy is an "anti-civilization journal of theory and action," and while I'm not totally into their primitivism approach, I do enjoy reading their writings because beneath the thick layers of rhetoric, there are some very well constructed critiques of modern society, as well as the "activist" scene.

As I informed you in my last letter, John Trudell has testified as a primary “witness” for the US government in their case against Arlo Looking Cloud and John Graham, who in the 1970s were active in AIM and the life-and-death struggle of the Lakota people at the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota.
In the latest issue of Green Anarchy, #20, the collective refers to complaints received about the inclusion of Trudell in the previous issue, one of which was my earlier letter, but does not state the primary reason of the complaint: Trudell’s status as government collaborator.
In the very same issue of Green Anarchy that Trudell was featured, William Cottrell was described as a state informant against two persons charged with ecological-related sabotage: “During the course of his trial in October, he ratted on his friends and comrades and, in our opinion, should no longer be supported."

Lisa Jones Confuses Anarchy with Proper Government
Jones offers good reasons to oppose "green anarchism:" "its proponents are anti-civilization," and "many green anarchists support monkeywrenching, a euphemism for vandalism and burning down ski lodges." This is a real threat.
By analogy, if I were to say that a defining characteristic of green anarchists is that they want to limit pollution (which they do), environmentalists who oppose anarchy would rightly complain that limiting pollution is not specific to green anarchy.
If Jones's "logic" on this point were extended, she would count an absolute dictatorship as a form of anarchy, which strips the term of all meaning.

All up, Green Anarchist is definitely one of those precious few radical publications that’s been going forever and is still going because it's stayed relevant and interesting, and even after all sorts of controversy and repression the editors haven’t backed up an inch.
