Info and facts on 'Red Ensign'   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
The Red Ensign is thought to have become the basis for Bermuda's flag as, prior to the naval reorganziation of 1864, the red squadron of the Royal Navy (additional info and facts about Royal Navy) (which flew a Red Ensign) tended to patrol the Caribbean (Region including the Caribbean islands) and north Atlantic.
The red ensign may continue to be flown on land in Maori (The Oceanic language spoken by the Maori people in New Zealand) areas or during Maori events under the Flags, Emblems, and Names Protection Act 1981 in recognition of long held Maori preference for red flags.
Both ensigns were changed slightly in 1912 when the shield of the coat of arms was placed on a white roundel.

It is a British Red Ensign with a white symbol on the fly, that looks like a three-headed club.
It reminds me of what happened in the case of the 'green ensign' that was attributed to Ireland in some foreign flag charts of the 19th century.
This flag was also reported from a poster dated 1943 - the image is identical to that shown in the 1944 Encyclopedia, and clearly one is the reproduction of the other.

Its deep green, glossy linear leaves and young stems are fragrant and sticky to the touch.
Enveloped by a soft-looking rust-colored fuzz, the light stems and green oval-shaped leaves with pale gray-green undersides possess an untiring resilience to drought, wind, coastal frontlines, pesky deer and pruning.
Buckeye-style, bright green five-fingered leaves are artfully splashed with irregular creamy white margins and sport small spines at their bases, while lining numerous upright and arching canelike stems.

Northern Ireland: Putative Blue Ensigns   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
It is certain that the blue ensign charged with a harp was never used as the flag of Northern Ireland.
The flags are a Union Jack, two "harp ensigns", and a fourth flag that cannot be clearly distinguished (a red ensign perhaps?).
Unfortunately, the cantons of both of the "harp ensigns" are indistinct and the possibility that they may be Dublin municipal flags cannot be excluded, although I would consider this to be somewhat unlikely in view of the context.
