 Green Line repairs force closures - The Boston Globe
Track work will shut down portions of one branch of the MBTA's Green Line for 10 weeks this summer, forcing Red Sox fans who usually take the T to hop on buses to at least nine games, officials said yesterday.
The T plans to replace old track ties, renovate stations, and rebuild bridges along the D branch of the Green Line.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority board approved buying materials for the $9.5 million project yesterday, a cost that does not include renovating the Longwood and Brookline Village stations and rebuilding the Hyde Street bridge in Newton.

Guilford Transportation, the parent company of Guilford Rail Systems and Pan American Airways, received the approval yesterday of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, better known as MBTA, to begin work on a sweeping project aimed at bringing people back into the urban area, according to Guilford President David Fink.
Fink said a key component to the development will be the demolition of the MBTA's old Lechmere station for the Green Line, one of the branches of the public transportation system that runs through and around Greater Boston.
On the boulevard side of the development, the new MBTA and bus station will be constructed, with some of the Green Line tracks that currently cross the street rerouted to one side, according to Fink.

Thousands of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority passengers spilled into the streets by the Kenmore T station yesterday afternoon as a fire in the Boylston station halted inbound transportation on the B Line.
Outbound service on the Green Line continued at the Blandford Street T-stop, and the C and D Lines were still running.
Some found out about the fire, and that the Green Line had "broken down," by listening to the radio in the booth outside the station's entrance.
