  Energtech: Green energy
Green energy is a term used by some environmentalists to describe what they deem to be environmentally friendly sources of power and energy.
For green energy to be truly "ecological electricity" it must not include medium or large-scale hydroelectric power or sources of air pollution such as burning biomatter or petroleum, as these still damage the world environment on a large scale.
Purchasing and using green energy is generally easier in the 21st century then it was in the 20th century, such when compared to the 1950s.

Green energy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Green energy is a term describing what is thought to be environmentally friendly sources of power and energy.
Green energy is available through one of the many third-party energy suppliers that sell electricity made from renewable sources.
Green energy currently provides a very small amount of electricity, generally contributing less than 2 to 5 % to the overall pool from which utilities buy their electricity.

Distributed Energy Program: Green Power Markets
Instead of installing a renewable energy system on their property, roughly 40% of electricity customers in the United States now have the option of purchasing renewable energy directly from their electricity supplier.
Green power marketing usually refers to selling green power in a competitive marketplace, in which multiple suppliers and service offerings exist, but can also include the marketing of green pricing programs and green energy certificates (see below).
Green energy certificates (also known as green tags, renewable energy certificates, or tradable renewable certificates), which represent these environmental attributes, are then sold to companies and individuals who want to help increase the amount of green power entering our nation's electricity supply.

Green tags provide a means by which you can invest in the environmental benefits of renewable energy, regardless of whether you live in an area where green power is available.
And investing in renewable energy today may just be a better bargain than ever: with the cost of fossil fuels rapidly rising, investing in green energy may actually be more of a bargain than at any time in the past.

By virtually all accounts, renewable energy resources will be an increasingly important part of the power generation mix over the next several decades.
Perhaps even more promising than the technical developments in renewables are the resounding endorsements from major energy companies like Enron, Shell, and British Petroleum, which have invested heavily in PV and wind in recent years and are planning significant increases in these and other renewables efforts.
Renewables already account for 6% of total energy there, and the Europeans have recently announced an aggressive goal to double this contribution by 2010.

GreenBiz News | Report: Companies Buying Green Energy Beware
LONDON, Sept. 9, 2002 - Companies considering buying ‘green’ energy need be aware of the quality of the energy being offered by energy companies if they are not to be ripped off, according to a new report.
The report, by energy information provider Platts and environmental campaign group Friends of the Earth, reveals that some power companies are charging business customers extra for ‘green’ energy that they have to provide anyway under new Government rules.
The new Renewables Obligation requires energy suppliers to source 3% of their power from new renewable sources, with the requirement rising to 10% by 2012.

Nuclear energy is by far the nation's largest electricity source that does not emit greenhouse gases.
And because nuclear energy has such a small impact on its surroundings, many energy companies have created natural areas, such as wildlife sanctuaries, around their plants, working with the Audubon Society, Ducks Unlimited and the Wildlife Habitat Council.
But it would be foolhardy, both economically and environmentally, not to increase our country's nuclear energy capacity as an affordable, reliable, readily available and clean component of our energy mix in the years ahead.

 CUSU Green » Green Energy
'Green energy' can be produced using the power of the wind, the sun, the tides, and geothermal systems, all of which can generate electricity without the serious environmental problems associated with burning fossil fuels.
The use of renewable energy is essential if we are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions before it is too late, and demand from large energy purchasers is crucial if energy producers are to invest in green energy technology.
The University is pleased to accept this petition and shares CUSU's concern over and enthusiasm for so-called Green energy sources, but this must be seen in the context of a much wider programme of improvements to the levels of consumption of energy across the institution.
