Competitive Greenhills traders grew up in the same place   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
They all started as small shops in the crowded marketplace that is the Greenhills Shopping Center, a shopping mecca for bargain hunters since the early 1970s when Virra Mall and Shoppesville, Manilabank, PCIB, Padilla and Crossroads arcades first opened their wide doors to the public.
Many shopping centers have cropped up since then and Greenhills admittedly has lost some of its buyers and tenants to the new centers such as Makati and Ortigas, but most of the big names have stayed because they believe that it is still there where the buyers come to spend their money.
Greenhills buyers, however, come not just to patronize the same stores that they see in the big malls, but to take advantage of the variety of goods sold by the more than 2,000 entrepreneurs that have set up shop in Greenhills with its famous tiangge or flea market.

Even Masses at the Catholic chapel in the Greenhills Shopping Center were temporarily suspended at the height of the controversy, as a way of expressing solidarity with the Muslims.
