Greenstone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Greenstone is a form of green nephrite jade found in New Zealand and Australia.
Greenstone belts are mixed sedimentary and volcanic rock sequences that often contain minable concentrations of gold, silver, copper, zinc and lead.
Greenstone is also used colloquially to refer to green colored metamorphic rocks or greenschist; also a grade of metamorphism.

 James Bay Report, Part I
The greenstones (volcanics ± sediments) represent thick submarine units that formed as sheets over a pre-existing “continental” crust.[2] This was an unstable environment since the greenstones were heavier rocks, and under gravity and imposed regional tectonic stress sagged down by ductile flow into the pre-existing “continental” base.
The base then rose vertically by ductile flow to accommodate the weight of the sagging greenstones, and formed much of the protolith of the subsequent large gregarious “granite-gneiss” domes.[3] VMS and komatiitic nickel sulphide deposits were formed during the deposition of the greenstones themselves as a result of particular volcanic processes.
The Attawapiskat greenstone belt is found towards the northern margin of the Archean Superior Province (as it occurs in Ontario), and is classified by the OGS as part of the Sachigo subprovince, one of the “belts” cross-cutting the Superior Province.

The earliest deformational event in the Red Lake greenstone belt is interpreted to be an isoclinal folding event associated with early widespread carbonate alteration.

Greenstone, Ontario - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Greenstone is an amalgamated town in the Canadian province of Ontario.
The town was formed in a wave of community amalgamations under the Progressive Conservative government of Ontario in 2001, encompassing the communities of Nakina, Geraldton, Longlac, Beardmore, Caramat, Jellicoe, MacDiarmid, and Orient Bay.
While the strategy was of debatable success for cheek-to-jowl urban communities of the highly populated south, the appropriateness for the remote, isolated northern communities is still contested by the residents.
