  Greenway (Middle-earth)
In Tolkien's fiction of Middle-earth, the Greenway is the road which connects Arnor and Gondor.
The Greenway was long the main path of traffic between Gondor and Arnor, but in the later Third Age after the division of Arnor in three realms it became lesser used.
Use of the road virtually ended after the Great Plague and Long Winter when Tharbad was abandoned and its bridge ruined, and the road in Dunland was mostly lost.

04/30/98 DANNY T. GREENWAY v. BUFFALO HILTON HOTEL
Greenway signed the form, but wrote Kulwicki a three-page letter describing his version of the events and informing his boss of his belief that he was being targeted for discrimination based on his health status.
In its answer, Hilton contended that Greenway was not terminated because of his disability, but because the hotel's written policy required such action as a result of the four disciplinary write-ups he had received.
Greenway would be entitled to compensatory damages during the period when he failed to mitigate only if the total compensation (including pay and health benefits) he would have received from comparable employment would have been less than what he received at the Hilton.

Green threads in the urban fabric A comprehensive look at the elements of urban trails and greenways and their benefits ...
Our current concept of "greenways" is a vision beyond the parks, plants, and visual aspects of the past; now, greenways encompass transportation, urban wildlife, flood control, utilities, education, neighborhood planning, and other threads of the urban fabric.
An adjoining 4 to 8' of smoothly graded earth or crushed rock accommodates runners, horses, birdwatchers, and others who wish to be off the higher-speed paved trail.
Greenways and urban trails have become part of major corridor planning efforts and the catalyst for far-reaching programs of open space preservation.

Statewide Greenways System Planning Project Final Report
Greenways using conservation easements across these lands can allow traditional land uses to continue, while providing corridors for the movement of wildlife (through less intensive land uses like tree plantations and ranch lands) and, where appropriate, people, as well as important habitat for some sensitive wildlife species.
It was the Commission's opinion that greenways is not a "connect-the-dots" concept applied without justifiable ecological or human need, but that connecting greenways and core reserves results in a system that is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Greenways and greenways systems can serve many functions and be used in many different ways, but all uses and functions are simply not possible at all locations.

The seventeenth century is the only recorded date relevant to the decay of the North-South Road: it was the time when the maintainers of the road were withdrawn from Tharbad in its middle reaches, far to the south of Bree.
At this time the North-kingdom had been at war for several hundred years, and the segment of the Road under its control may already have begun to fall into disrepair.

From the Middle of the Third Age, Bree was inhabited by a mixture of both Humans and Hobbits, lovingly, who lovingly named each other the 'Big and the Little Folk'.
The origin of the human Breelanders is obscured in the mists of time, but it is believed that their forefathers migrated from an ancient human people that originally dwelled near the White Mountains in the Dark Years during the Second Age and later moved to what is now called Dunland.
Bree was located at the crossing of the Great East Road that passed from Rivendell to the Grey Havens and the Greenway (formerly called the North-South Road that linked Arnor and Gondor via the Gap of Rohan).

(MULTIPLE APPROACHES TO ECOPSYCHOLOGY: ONE VI
Of course the debate rages whether Spirit has fully descended into earth, or whether earth-consciousness is evolving towards a higher "spirit" (or whether both are true).
Whatever, many now working within an ecopsychology umbrella strive for that "feeling" or "groove" of oneness with nature, and assume this to be an essential spiritual approach to healing the human-nature relationship.
Again, to summarize, the bottom line, in my view, is that: the rich historical lines of human- environmental- relationship exploration; the professional "guilds" and university curricula splintered into "disciplines" and "fields"; and the sense of crisis with regard to the human-environment relationship has given us a cauldron of interactive stew, representing great diversity.
