Greer County was organized as a county of Texas, February 8, 1860.
Oklahoma might well be pleased that the decision was handed down in her favor because it added to the state a million and a half acres of rich farming land, settled the question of ownership of land in Greer County and defined the southwest boundary of Oklahoma.

Greer County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma.
The county was then assigned to the Oklahoma Territory on May 4, 1896, and when Oklahoma became a state, in addition to becoming Greer County, the region was also further split into Harmon, Jackson, and part of Beckham counties.
In the county, the population was spread out with 20.00% under the age of 18, 9.10% from 18 to 24, 28.40% from 25 to 44, 22.40% from 45 to 64, and 20.00% who were 65 years of age or older.

Greer County, created by the Texas legislature on February 8, 1860 (and named for John Alexander Greer, Lieutenant Governor of Texas), was land claimed by both Texas and the United States.
The Greer County Homestead Law, passed just afterwards, gave the Texas settlers the 160 acres (647,000 m²) they were living on and the option to purchase an additional 160 acres (647,000 m²) for $1.00 per acre ($247/km²).
When Oklahoma became the 46th U.S. state (November 16, 1907), old "Greer County" was divided into Greer, Harmon, Jackson, and part of Beckham counties.

To the amended petition of the plaintiff, the defendant, the board of county commissioners of Greer county, Oklahoma, interposed a general demurrer, on the ground that said petition failed to state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action in favor of the plaintiff and against the defendant.
Lewis it was held that the debts of a county, contracted during a valid organization remain the obligations of the county, although for a time the organization be abandoned, and there be no officers to be reached by the process of the courts.
Certainly congress did not intend that Greer county, Oklahoma, should receive all the benefits that accrued to it from the transfer of the property from Greer county, Texas, and not bear the burdens that were incident to such transfer.

Created in 1886, this county was orginally formed by Texas, annexed to OK by court decision.
It was claimed as a part of the domains of Texas until 1895 when the United States Suprene Court decided that it was not a part of Texas, after which it was annexed to the territory of Oklahoma.
An act of Congress on 4 May 1896 declared it Greer Co., OK. A fire in 1901 destroyed the court records.
