In July 1886 the settlers of Greer County met at Mobeetie and organized Greer County on the authority of the act of 1860.
Texas held that the 100th meridian of the Melish map was the boundary intended by the framers of the treaty and that the North Fork was the main Red River and therefore the boundary.
Greer County thus became a territory of the United States and, in 1906, part of Oklahoma.

Greer became well-known as a County Commissioner with close relations to powerful developers in Pinellas County during his eight years as a County Commissioner from the beginning of 1985 when he took office (he was elected unopposed to the Commission in 1988) until he left the Commission for his current judgeship in early 1993.
Greer’s most notable accomplishment, during his first six year term as judge, was to cause needlessly a loss of a life, due to his negligence.
Greer denied her request for injunction, claiming he was “following the law.” Days later, the husband stabbed the wife to death, and her co-workers picketed Greer outside the courthouse.

"Old Greer County Pioneers" was chosen as the name of the organization of the early settlers of Greer County, Texas, when they met in their first reunion at Hollis, July 26, 1933.
To be eligible for membership one must have been a resident of the strip of territory known as Greer County, Texas before 1896, the date of the Supreme Court decision that settled the boundary dispute between Texas and the United States and which declared this strip to be a part of Oklahoma Territory.
Invitations for 1934 meeting places were given by Mangum, county seat of the present Greer County, and capital of Old Greer and by Altus.

To this count of the plaintiff's petition the defendant set up as a defense that the commissioners' court of Greer county, Tex., had no power or authority to issue said warrants to said Eubanks as county attorney of said county, and therefore said warrants were ultra vires and void.
The record discloses that Eubanks, as county attorney, was authorized by the commissioners' court to bring suit for the interest due on certain school-land notes, and that he was to be allowed ten per cent.
De Lana, 8 Okla. 213, 57 P., this court said: "The law presumes that, when the officers of a municipality issue their obligations, such obligations are issued for lawful corporate purposes, and that they acted within the scope of their powers." In 21 Am.
