Theonomy, by Greg Bahnsen: Review and Critique
Bahnsen cited Hebrews 8:6-13 as evidence for his assertion, yet the context in Hebrews clearly differentiates the covenants as two, not as somehow unified.
Bahnsen overstates his case: "Something that was sinful in the Old Testament is likewise sinful for us in the New Testament, for God's standards are not subject to fluctuation from age to age" (p.
Bahnsen paints with too broad a brush when he says "the law is a transcript of the holiness of God" (p.

DR. GREG L. BAHNSEN: TEN YEARS LATER... CELEBRATING A CHRISTIAN ICON
Bahnsen was opined by many as the most prolific Christian apologist in the last quarter of the 20th century in terms of defending the Christian perspective against the assaults of atheism.
While Bahnsen was a scholar of no small magnitude, as he earned two degrees concurrently, he yet had a down-to-earth, bucolic approach that made him easy to understand and appreciate.
Greg Bahnsen trained a handful of faithful men to follow in his footsteps, but I doubt if even he might have imagined the positive impact his legacy would have had on a few average guys residing in the Midwest.

Does Logic Presuppose the Existence of the Christian God?
Bahnsen's position is in part based on his rejection of logical conventionalism, the view that logic is a human convention.
Bahnsen in turn criticized conventionalism in logic by arguing that if logic is conventional, it is arbitrary[8] and that this is this is absurd.
I infer from this that for Bahnsen implication and presupposition was identical.

 Greg Bahnsen - Theopedia
The late Dr. Greg Bahnsen was the scholar in residence at the Southern California Center for Christians studies where he taught Apologetics from a distinctly Reformed perspective.
The apologetic used by Dr. Bahnsen sought to force the anti-theist to acknowledge the fact that he must consistently borrow capital from the Christian worldview in order to make sense of his life.
Bahnsen cites David Hume's skepticism of traditional arguments for God's existence as the springboard by which the Transcendental Argument for God was born.

Time and again, Bahnsen mentions Montgomery’s appeal to data that can be neutrally observed by anyone who cares to study it,[9] brute facts that are inseparable from their meanings,[10] and the claimed objectivity of our knowledge.
But if Bahnsen’s chief concern is the application of probability to matters of faith, Montgomery could point out that historians qua historians are limited to the use of their own tools in the process of uncovering the past.
But I think that Bahnsen has gone to such great extents to argue his points that he fails to come to grips with numerous biblical passages which he is forced to either ignore or to provide less than likely interpretations.

This is Greg Bahnsen's response to criticisms of the theonomic position that have been published or circulated over the last ten years.
In fact, Bahnsen's book can be said to have split the faculty into three camps: (1) the "natural law in spite of Van Til's philosophy" camp, (2) the "not natural law, but we're not sure what to substitute" camp; and (3) the "Proverbs 12:23" camp.
No Other Standard is Bahnsen's response not only to the Westminster faculty's book, but also to the two other brief critical books against him, and to the various published articles and typewritten, photocopied responses that have circulated over the years.

 Bahnsen at the Stein Debate
When Bahnsen announced that he too objected to those standard proofs, but that he offered a very different proof, a “transcendental argument,” Stein was evidently flummoxed.
Bahnsen’s transcendental argument was carefully put together and eloquently stated: logic, the laws of nature, and the laws of morality make no sense unless God is presupposed.
Bahnsen and I later discussed our differences on that subject in various venues, and that discussion still continues among us years after Bahnsen’s untimely death.

I thought that Bahnsen, while regretably employing a rather harsh tone here that pervades many of his writings, was nonetheless accurate in many of his critiques of the other views.
I also felt that Bahnsen did a very good job of arguing for a theonomic position that is widely rejected because of the discomfort such a position tends to create on our modern sensitivities.
Both Kaiser and Bahnsen argued in favor of continuity between law and gospel and applicability of portions of the law on the believer today, although they disagreed with each other mainly over how much of the law is applicable today.
