Laughlin was the only Member of Congress to see active duty during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Despite this, Republicans in Laughlin's district were still unhappy with him, and he faced a primary challenge from former Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul (also a former Libertarian presidential candidate), as well as Laughlin's primary opponent from the 1994 election.
In a three-way race, Laughlin won the initial primary election with 42% of the vote, but by failing to win a majority he was required to face the second-place Paul in a run-off election.

 mobileCatalog: New Planets
Laughlin\\\'s prediction comes from studying a characteristic of stars that, until a few years ago, few paid much attention to: metallicity.
And, says Laughlin, "the one true indicator of whether a star is likely to have a detectable giant planet is its metallicity." These hot Jupiters and eccentric Jupiters, as they are known, are the easiest types of planets to detect; almost all the planets discovered to date are of these two types.
Indeed, Laughlin believes that, when all the data are in, we\\\'ll have discovered hundreds of nearby stars with solar systems much like our own, although the majority of them will have a Neptune or a Saturn at 5 AU rather than a Jupiter.

 1997 Laughlin Challenge Stock Mini
Greg Foutz, while having lost points to the two leaders, is well within striking distance for the title, and with the Baja race being wildly unpredictable as always, it wouldn't be wise to count him out of the action just yet.
The Laughlin course proved to be rough on the Stock Minis, as Both Williams and Browm survived 8 of the 10 laps befort mechanical difficulties ended their race prematurely.
While Turnrer isnt a factor in the top 5 slots, Reinerston is. With his 5th place finish, Reinerston moved into 4th position in the 97 points chase, with the absence of John Kearney, but is too far behind the leaders to challenge for the top 3 positions.

New Scientist SPACE - Breaking News - Exoplanet’s hard core is largest yet detected
Laughlin says the new discovery suggests "something extra", such as a collision with one or more planets in the past, could explain the dense core.
Laughlin hopes to find more transiting planets to see how unusual this object is. The best data so far is on three extrasolar planets that transit bright stars, but all three are quite different.
One is about a third larger in diameter than expected by theory, one is the predicted size, and this object is smaller and denser than expected.

The method for doing this was first published in “The Leading Edge” in 1999, in a paper by Greg Partyka et al., that illustrated the idea of using frequency to “tune-in” bed thickness.

Even for astronomers, University of Michigan professor Fred Adams and his former student Greg Laughlin think big--really, really big--and their planning is really, really long-term.
They've had to come up with a new unit of measure to make this timescape intellectually tractable: the "cosmological decade." When the universe is 10 to the n years old, it is in the nth cosmological decade; we are now in the 10th, for instance.
As the title implies, authors Fred Adams and Greg Laughlin divide the lifetime of the universe into five eras, and we're living in the second.
