Her dad, Greg Sorbara, is a Liberal MPP fir Vaugan-King-Aurora - but she's not much into politics, or even pop-culture in general, and she has no plans to follow in his footsteps.
The Sorbara kids grew up without a TV (hence Martina's talent for making anything, from her own guitars to her own voice); and Sorbara would sing and dance along with her reflection in the window to Cyndi Lauper's True Colors album.

Sorbara has won in every election in which he has been a candidate (including 1985, when the former riding of York North was considered a Tory stronghold; and in 1990, when the NDP actually finished a strong second).
Sorbara has not done a great job here since he was elected in the 2002 by-elections, but those are on the same issues that kicked the Tories out of this seat (urban sprawl primarily).
Greg better find his hard-hat and construction boots because after the next election he's no longer going to be the honorable member from VKA -- just another liberal hack sentenced to the dustbin of obscurity by the Ontario PC party.

Ontario Finance Minister Greg Sorbara said Thursday that he would not resign from cabinet, despite the news that a criminal investigation is now focused on a company where he was a director.
Sorbara was a director of the company and a member of its audit committee until last fall, when he was named to the cabinet of Premier Dalton McGuinty.
Sorbara said he learned of the OSC investigation in December, but was prevented by securities law from telling McGuinty about the matter until Royal Group went public with the news on Wednesday.

In a complaint filed with Osborne, Conservative MPP John Baird alleged that Sorbara had been in a conflict because he continued to serve as minister responsible for the OSC even after he became aware that the OSC was investigating Royal.
Sorbara denied that he was ever in a conflict, but referred the matter to the integrity commissioner.

Sorbara today introduced the Automobile Insurance Rate Stabilization Act, 2003 which, if passed, would freeze insurers’ rates at levels approved on or before October 23, 2003 and would prevent further approvals from taking place for 90 days.

Sorbara came under fire earlier this year when it was revealed that the Ontario Securities Commission and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were investigating transactions made by the company while Sorbara was serving on its board of directors.

Sorbara is on the hot seat for waiting over two months to disclose the fact that Royal Group Technologies, a company on whose Board of Directors he served for the ten years before being sworn in as a minister, was under investigation by both the police and the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC).
On February 26, Sorbara declared that “while the OSC's investigation is being conducted I've asked the premier to assign another minister responsibility for the OSC.” This decision was endorsed in a letter to Sorbara by Integrity Commissioner Coulter Osborne, but the letter merely raised more questions.
According to Sorbara, the key issue was “why it took months before the public was alerted” — which seems to be precisely the issue in the current scandal.

Consumer Minister Greg Sorbara {in the David Peterson, Ontario Liberal government,} is part-owner of two North York apartment buildings where 650 tenants face a proposed 52 per cent rent hike.
The Sorbara family is using a loophole in the province's rent review law to jack up rents at 5000 Jane St. and 4001 Steeles Ave.
Sorbara said he doesn't know about the proposed rent hikes because his financial interests are kept in a blind trust to comply with the province's conflict-of-interest law.
