In Manitoba there are six members of Ukrainian origin sitting in the legislative assembly, one of whom is the speaker of the house, and they have been electing reeves, mayors, councillors, and aldermen in eighteen municipalities.
While the largest proportion of Ukrainians are engaged in agriculture, which is their greatest single contribution to the province, increasingly larger numbers are found in business, manufacturing, the trades, and in the various professions, in fact in all walks of life.
Eleven Czech families sold their lands and emigrated with the Ukrainian to Manitoba, some settling in Winnipeg, others in Ladywood and Cromwell, Manitoba, and some in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan; all of them were grateful to Orlowsky for his encouragement and efforts.

The name Manitoba is derived from the Indian words "Manito waba", which probably refer to the echoing sounds produced by the waves as they dash against the rocks in a narrow straight of Lake Manitoba.
Manitoba is also rich in mineral resources, notably nickel in the Thompson area and zinc and copper near Flin Flon.
Manitoba at that time had a population of 776,541 of which 98,753 were of Ukrainian origin; half of whom lived in the cities and the other half on farms.

The first General Conference initiated Bible school program in Manitoba was begun by the Bergthaler and Blumenorter Gemeinden in conjunction with the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna in 1929.
The school’s first and regular teacher was Ältester Johann H. Enns (1889–1974), who had pioneered the Bible School for the Blumenorter and Bergthaler Gemeinden in Gretna, Manitoba in 1929–31 and was now the leading minister of the Schoenwieser Mennonitengemeinde.
Financial help came specifically through collections from individual Manitoba congregations, projects of the Mädchenheim (Girls’ home) women’s organization known as Edelweisskränzchen, as well as a broader support organization known as the Unterstütsungsverein, initiated by alumni in 1941.

The scholarship of $100 would be a loan for destitute girls to get an education at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna, Manitoba.
Many later women's groups adopted different meeting styles, but the Gretna group chose to keep things as they were.
