Grevillea is a diverse genus of about 250 species of evergreen flowering plants in the protea family Proteaceae, native to Australia and New Caledonia.
Many species are cultivated for their distinctive foliage and showy flowers, and they have been extensively hybridised.
There is an active Grevillea Study Group in ASGAP for people interested in Grevilleas, both for uses in horticulture and for conservation in the wild.

The first grevilleas collected were amongst the collections made by Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander who arrived on Captain Cook’s ship the ‘Endeavour’ in Botany Bay on 28th April 1770.
The very first grevillea was given the unofficial name ‘Leucadendroides mitis’ by Solander – the generic name meaning ‘like a Leucodendron’, a South African genus which was known to these botanists.
A paste was made by mashing the bark of certain grevilleas and this was used to heal earache, spear wounds, skin sores and even rubbed on women’s breasts to induce lactation.
