Greymouth is the largest town in the West Coast region on the South Island of New Zealand, and the seat of the Grey District Council.
The mouth of the river divided the town into three areas: Blaketown, close to the river's mouth on the south bank; Karoro, to the southeast, sepaprated from Blaketown by a series of small lakes; and Cobden, formerly a separate town, on the river's north bank.
Brunner discovered coal in the Grey valley, and several places in the region (notably the town of Brunner and Lake Brunner) bear his name.

Of the five freshwater species of dolphins in the world, the pink Amazon River dolphin, Inia geoffrensis, or "bufeo colorado” as they are known in Peru and “botos" as they known in in Brazil, are considered to be the most intelligent.
ISPTR believes that her work with the Peruvian Forest Police to protection both species of river dolphins, and empowering the local peoples of their rights and use of the law, there has been less illegal commercial fishing and logging in the area, thus saving the natural habitat of the land and aquatic life.
At river confluences, we have seen as many as 35 pink dolphins cooperatively herding and banking fish, often in association with the gray dolphins.

We did the river at somewhere between 2000 and 2800mm, or discoloured and rising.
The river used to flow to the right of a large rock island in Grade 1-2 water.

The smaller Brown Grey may hold fish during spawning season but generally is rather too small to afford the cover needed by decent size trout.
The Blue Grey River is much larger, being sourced from Lake Christabel, so there is plenty of holding water for trout all the way from the lake down.
However the Upper Grey is coming under increasing angling pressure, especially from the professional guides who obviously find it a good river to give their clients the real Kiwi outdoor experience without the cost of a helicopter or the inconvenience of tramping in.

Our objective is to raft the 37km stretch from The Blue Grey bridge on Palmers Rd to Waipuna Station where the Clark River meets her.
The next time this river raises to the top of the flood wall at Greymouth, threatening to invade the town, I'll be backing her.

Long Harbour river is one of Newfoundland and Labrador's earliest Atlantic salmon rivers with the main run of salmon coming in from opening day on June 6th to the end of the month.
The Long Harbour River is not being monitored but three adjacent watersheds for which there is data are Bay Du Nord River to the West which flows into Fortune Bay and the Terra Nova River and the Northwest River which are both located to the Northeast and flow into Bonavista Bay.
Therefore the high flows in the Grey River are due to the large drainage area downstream of the Pudops Dam which includes many tributaries on the Grey River.
