The Grey Wagtail is relatively common on North Staffordshires upland streams and rivers, where it may be found sharing habitat with Dippers.
They are often tolerant of close approach by humans and may be observed at close quarters flitting from rock to rock with an undulating flight, or hovering momentarily to catch insects.
I found the main problem photographing Grey Wagtails was that they seemed to prefer the more deeply shaded areas of the riverbank.

The first was seen on the roadside of Blowholes Road late in the afternoon of 10 Sept and the second was seen daily in front of the CI Resort.

This Grey Wagtail was one of the first visitors to my first pond, a plastic molded one about 6' by 3'.
It stayed around for several days and would wait on my neighbour's garage as I put mealworms onto plants floating in the pond.
As soon as I moved away it would fly down and skim the mealworm off the surface and land on the rock (seen behind it) to eat it before catching another.
