Grigore IV Ghica or Grigore Dimitrie Ghica was Prince of Wallachia between 1822 and 1828.
Although his is ultimately an Albanian lineage and many of his relatives had occupied the throne in both Bucharest and Iaşi, the regime change after the Greek War of Independence, Tudor Vladimirescu's actions and the Philikí Etaireía's brief rule in the two Principalities, Grigore IV is considered the first in a succession of non-Phanariote rulers.
The elections for Prince in the Divan, although prescribed by the Akkerman Convention of 1826, were not to be organized, due mainly to precipitating events.

In 1757, however, the law involving the disposal of children was changed, and they could no longer be sold without their parents - a short-lived reprieve in the overall condition of the Gypsy slaves: by the middle of the following century, the definition of slavery had been revised, and had perhaps become even stricter.
Both partners would henceforth be regarded as free, but the man, and any of their children over seven years of age, would have to continue to work for their previous owner.

The continuing weakening of the Hungarian state by further Mongol invasions (1285) and internal disputes opened the way for the process of unification of the Romanian political formations independent of the Hungarian king.
During the 1650s many boyars were killed in uprisings, more being killed in 1658 when Mihai Radu took voivode and set about defeating the Turks and he killed some 30 boyars that opposed this struggle.
1663 Grigore Ghica (1660-1664) had Cantacuzino murdered which unleashed a struggle for power between the Baleanu and Cantacuzino boyars.

On November 17, 1995, Tudorel Tanase, his father, Grigore Tanase, and Constantin Dragnea, son of Grigore Tanase's concubine, were shot by police officers under the command of Captain Lepadatescu in the yard of their house.
