Raul Grijalva is a Democratic Member of Congress who represents the Seventh District of Arizona, which stretches from Hispanic suburbs near Phoenix southeast to the Hispanic suburbs of Tucson, then south to the Mexican border adjacent to Nogales and west 275 miles along this international frontier to the California border at Yuma.
In other words, Grijalva seriously proposed that America's national election should be overseen and judged by the agents of such regimes as dictatorships of North Korea and Syria, the theocracy of Iran (that recently disqualified all its "election" candidates who advocated reform), the People's Republic of China and Communist Cuba.
Grijalva has been director of Tucson's El Pueblo Neighborhood Center and, in 1987, was Assistant Dean for Hispanic Affairs at the University of Arizona.

Grijalva has taken the principled step of formally lending support to H.R., which would put an end to the practice of "extraordinary rendition." This is a practice in which Bush Administration officials send people into the custody of certain nations, knowing full well (some would say intending) that they will be tortured there.
Raul Grijalva has cosponsored H.R., which would keep members of the Federal Communication Commission from using their appointed positions to censor cable, satellite or internet programs they consider to be indecent.
Grijalva has taken the affirmative step of cosponsoring H.R., which would provide more information to the public about contacts between lobbyists and politicians, and which would slow down the revolving door of politics in which politicians move into cushy corporate jobs after they retire in exchange for favors.
