GRIMALDI.ORG - THE HOUSE OF GRIMALDI - Official Site
The Grimaldis emerged from the Crusades as one of the four major ruling families of the Genoese urban nobility, essentially warriors, shipowners, and bankers.
The history of Monaco and of the Grimaldis was largely symbiotic until the 17th century, when a first controversial act of succession saw Jacques de Goyon Matignon climbing the throne of the principality.
Representatives of an international and business-savvy nobility, the Grimaldis were active as early as the Late Middle Age in all the large political and economic centers of Europe, notably Byzantium, France, Spain, the Netherlands and England.

 The 700 Years of Grimaldi
It all began on January 8, 1297 when the Guelf Francois Grimaldi dressed as a Franciscan monk, seized the fortress protecting the famous rock and the port of Hercules.
Surmounting the trials and tribulations of history and throughout the dark periods of foreign domination, the Principality has managed to affirm its identity and preserved its independence throughout the centuries due to the wise guidance of its Princes.
The Grimaldi dynasty has bequeathed Lords and then Princes to the Principality, illustrious in their many domains, who wrote the most enticing pages in the history of Monaco.

 FRANK GRIMALDI
Grimaldi's brand of retrospective pop music, which is never brooding but sometimes comically self-deprecating can be heard on his 1996 debut CD "Walking Backward" and his current CD "Balance."
Born in Brooklyn to Italian-American parents, Grimaldi replies to the age question by coyly stating he is exactly one year older than Madonna.
Frank Grimaldi is former co-chair a long standing member of OUTMUSIC.
