We visited Grimes Graves on the last Sunday of August 2001.
Grimes Graves are stone age flint mines, and are to be found in the middle of Thetford forest in Nolfork.
The land is looked after by English heritage, and although there is only one pit that is accessible the surrounding area with the forest makes it well worth a visit.

Without doubt there was ritual activity at Grimes Graves but I question the significance of this as motive force.
By no means all the floorstone extracted at Grimes Graves would have been suitable for the manufacture of quality axes and much raw material was discarded on site.
