Grindcore vocals sounded torturous, ranging from high-pitched shrieks to low, throat-shredding growls and barks; although the lyrics were usually quite verbose, they were very rarely intelligible.
In Napalm Death's hands, grindcore was actually rather arty, a sonic metaphor for the bleakness, violence, and decay of modern society; the group's lyrics were additionally packed with angry social commentary.
Grindcore's blistering intensity was assimilated not only into underground heavy metal, but also into avant-garde and experimental music circles; Japanese noise bands like the Boredoms and Merzbow found it inspiring, and jazz musician John Zorn formed the grindcore-inspired group Painkiller (which featured former Napalm Death drummer Mick Harris).

 Carcass - Crepitant Grindcore
The conversion of grindcore to its origins in accepted commercial rock did not sit well with the fanbase, and this album essentially slammed shut the career of this promising band.
Review: Carcass founded much of what grindcore would become by managing complexity and compositional coherence through simple riffs without compromising the extremity of their art; the subtle difference lurked almost entirely in the distinctiveness of their riffs and songs because of their compositional centering in melody.
Start to finish this compilation is an impressive collection of work by an impressive band, and as such like the life of the band is prone to controvery, as styles and intensity of the music vary throughout its tracklist.

Grindcore - The Berzerker The Berzerker / CD / 2000
When one looks past the fact that the Berzerker (a group rather than an individual) perform in monstrous costume and focus strictly on their music, it becomes apparent that they are producing some relatively exciting grindcore for 2000.
So with this incorporation of mechanical percussion, the songs on this eponymous debut come off as a cross breed of classic early-'90s grindcore and late-'90s gabba, an almost self-mocking style of hardcore techno that pushes the bpm level to ultra-jackhammer levels.
Of course, with such an exploitative approach to making music, it would seem as if the Berzerker's music comes off as contrived, and for the most part, it does.

 Grindcore - Free Music Downloads - MP3 Downloads - Download.com Music
Grindcore took the heavy metal concepts of volume, speed, and power to illogical extremes.
While other bands had previously explored this approach, England's Napalm Death coined the term grindcore to describe its mid-'80s experiments using pitch-shifted vocals and rapid-fire double-bass drums to create atonal, minute-long explosions of nihilistic fury (Napalm Death is also credited with the shortest song ever, at 1.3 seconds).
Widely derided at the time as an abomination against all things musical, grindcore nevertheless went on to inspire many more popular forms of metal and outsider music.
