Nunavut is bordered by Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea to the east, Manitoba and Saskatchewan to the south, and the Northwest Territories on the west.
Grise Ford, the northernmost city, (population less than 150) lies north of the Arctic Circle.
Although the Nunavut government faces many challenges with high unemployment, low educational levels and little infrastructure, the Nunavut land claims settlement, one of the most comprehensive and innovative land claims between an aborigine group and a state, gives the Inuit control over their economic, political, and cultural future.

The Government of Nunavut does have some programs to assist our constituents, whether it is subsidizing POL products, or through the commercial power rebate subsidy program for private home operators, through some of our subsidized housing, public housing and various programs like that.

 Grise Fiord's sewage blues
When a piece of the diesel engine on Grise Fiord's only sewage truck broke down on Jan. 14, the 160 residents were left without any way to get rid of their sewage.
Robert Sheaves, the hamlet's assistant senior administrative officer, said that when the governor on the fuel pump gave out on the four or five-year-old municipal vehicle, they had to initiate a search for what would end up to be a very costly part to replace.
When hamlet officials learned that the western Arctic's Kingland Ford -- the Yellowknife-based car dealer that originally sold them the truck -- didn't stock the part, Sheaves said they went on to the manufacturer, only to learn that no one in Canada had it in stock.

Yes I guess the Minister indicated the Nunavut Social Development Council would participate on the review and I think the Minister indicated to the council to decide what places they wanted to go to and that it would be up to them to decide what communities would be visited.
We were going to try and see if the Nunavut Government has some funding we were thinking of reviewing some of the communities have rapidly growing population to see if they are keeping up with their needs.

We recognize the Nunavut government's funding situation, but even a concrete floor would likely go a long way to giving residents of places like Rankin a place to play indoors when they can't be outside.

In Sam Ford Fjord we meet hunters who invite us to their camp for tea and boiled seal.
He dreamed of assembling a team to travel under its own power along the length of Canada’s eastern Arctic seaboard, from the northern trip of Ellesmere Island to the tree-line in Labrador.
The Ellesmere Island section was completed in 1990, and in 1992 John and I traveled from Resolute Bay across Devon Island to Grise Fjord to complete the second stage.
