"Grooveallegiance" is a VERY clever spoof on the Pledge of Allegiance, now pledging "grooveallegiance to the united funk of Funkadelica".
Jumping from funk ("One Nation") to jazz ("Grooveallegiance") to now HARD rock, this song is a lovely interlude that is very under-utilized in concert (a shame).
Mike Hampton goes out of control with his guitar, giving up some wicked riffs during the verses and some HEAVY riffs in the choruses.

Detailed info on Funkadelic's _One Nation Under A Groove_
The album is a smorgasborg of different styles, with dance floor workouts, peerless funky rock, bizarre freakouts, grinding instrumentals, and much more.
The jazzy, subtle "Grooveallegiance" follows, with a brilliant, understated Hampton solo intermeshing with new bassist Rodney "Skeet" Curtis' smooth grooves and Junie's funky keyboards.
is solid gold, from the anthemic title track, with it's accompanying latin-feel "Grooveallegiance", "PromentalShitBackWashPsychosisEnemaSquad", and statements of purpose "Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock" and "Cholly".

Until 1978, George Clinton appealed mainly to the R&B crowd, providing a nasty funk sound that no one else rendered.
However, the words and music congealed in the most accessible piece of vinyl in Clinton’s career, creating memorable rock hits like “Grooveallegiance” and “Lunchmeataphobia.” Overall, this is a party album that is supposed to be fun, getting all the people together under the same flag of musical freedom and good times.
The standout of the album is the brazen use of electric guitar, an instrument in funk music that had been ignored up until that point.

John W, Yes, "Rock n' Roll Jelly's solo is off the chain.
Marvin, I need to hear "Grooveallegiance" I'm gonna get that.
I started to mention "Bass Folk Song" I think that upright solo is better than "Touch".

I know most ppl consider Will Lee the ultimate Late night bassist, but Skeet has appeared with tons of bands on the Late Show with Dave Letterman and Saturday Night Live as well as New York Undercover.
His best bass playing can be found on Funkadelic's "Oh, I" and "Grooveallegiance"
If you happen to get your hands on video footage of a Parliament-Funkadelic show from 1978-79 your will hear some of the most original funk bass solos ever.

One Nation Under a Groove remains P-Funk's most provocative release, as well as one of the funkiest long-players released in the disco era.
The band vamps on a world where people of different color play each other's songs ("Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!"), lose their inhibitions (the classic title track), and bond together with the glue of shared secrets (the wonderful "Grooveallegiance").
Standout: the slow-grooved "Into You," where a lover vows to stay true, or a patriot pledges devotion to a new flag--take your pick.

 Blogcritics.org: Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove 1978
Grooveallegiance has a pretty good melody, but, really, that's not the point; it's funk, you see...this whole "a is not as good as b" approach to music becomes really tiresome after a while...
I'm trying to compare like to like, trying out different frames to get the good out of it.
The "Grooveallegiance" might best be thought of as like a jazz instrumental.
