ANED | Lager | Gross Rosen
This camp, which takes its name from the nearby village of Gross Rosen, Rogoznica in Polish, was originally instituted as a satellite camp to the Concentration Camp KZ Sachsenhausen, but became a principal and autonomous camp on the first of May 1941.
Despite its poetic name, Gross Rosen has acquired a reputation as an infernal place by those who had the misadventure to have ended up there, because survival in that camp was barely possible.
Gross Rosen was liberated on the 14th of February 1945 by troops of the Soviet 52nd Armata of the Ukrainian front.

Gross revealed his attitude toward Poland and the Polish people by picking a local hero of the Polish anti-German and anti-Soviet underground, Jerzy Laudanski, and making him the main villain of his controversial book "Neighbors." It is on record that Mr.
Gross had the audacity to dedicate his book "Neighbors" to Shmul Wasserstein the interrogator and torturer for the Soviet terror apparatus in postwar Poland.
Gross, who alleged that 1600 Poles in Jedwabne murdered 1600 Jews supposedly living there, is now discredited by the results of the exhumation; he also is facing charges in Polish courts by the Laudanski family for slander and falsification of records.

Strangely, just earlier today I was thinking about the segment in which Gross interviewed Gene Simmons of KISS; a segment which NPR itself refers to as "infamous." What struck me most about that interview was not Simmons' boorishness, but Gross' reaction to that.
Gross was just flabbergasted; you could almost hear the bottom of her jaw scraping the floor.
Certainly, as Rosen says, Gross plays a sure hand through most of the interview, but it comes badly apart at the end, and it's through that shattering of pretense that I think Gross is revealed to be--or representing the interests of an organization that is--taking an activist, biased stance towards subjects it somehow deems contemptible.

Rosen takes a far more prominent member of the press (Jack Shafer) to task by taking a quote completely out of context, and tries to make a big deal out of it.
I think when people like Rosen use the word "revolutionize" to describe blogging's influence on journalism, what they mean is that it's having a functional impact on the field.
In the context of the Pro-Am revolution, you [Jay Rosen] asked, "Why would journalism be immune?" Journalism is not immune from technological changes and it is especially influenced by changes in the noetic field.

Gross believes that to achieve speed of execution, it is essential to tap the shared knowledge of an organization that has extensive experience in starting Internet companies.
When Gross' longtime friend, Charles Conn, now 35, signed on as CitySearch's chief executive two years ago, one of the first things he did was sit down for lengthy brainstorming sessions with such luminaries as Nobel Prize-winning physicist Arno Penzias, the chief scientist of Bell Laboratories who won fame for confirming the Big Bang theory.

She assumed that the interview, for all its obvious tensions, took place in the general domain of information gathering, and that good information flows to us from holding a public figure’s feet to the fire, asking the tough questions.
I would guess that Terry Gross and her team prepared hard for this interview by absorbing the relevant journalism— all of O’Reilly’s press clippings, news and commentary about his public battles, profiles of him, interviews, his books, plus watching his show.
Although Terry Gross never said it directly, her questions pointed out that what O'Reilly's detractors do is no different than what he was doing himself; he exagerates their criticism and tries to turn criticism into slander and libel.

Ideological and racial considerations meant that such labourers had to be kept under close supervision however, and to this end Breslau's first ZAL was established at Gross Masselwitz, (Maslice Wielki) to the west of the city, in the summer of 1940.
Though Polish labourers only received 50% of the wage paid to their German counterparts, it would appear that restrictions placed on them in Gross Masselwitz were initially limited to being forbidden to speak Polish, and being forbidden to go to the theatre, cinema or church.
After 4,000 workers of the Speer Baustab had laid the foundations, a ZAL was established to provide labourers for the construction, supplemented by forced labour from Gross Masselwitz and Rattwitz.
