		Grosse Ile Township is township in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan.
		Two bridges connect the township to the mainland; the northern, often referred to as the "pay bridge", is a yellowish color, and the southern, the Wayne County Bridge (also known as the "free bridge") is a light green.
		In the township the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 34.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older.

		Grosse Ile historians consider the beginning of ownership and governance of the community by residents of European heritage to have begun on July 6, 1776 when the Potawatomi Indians deeded the island to prominent Detroit merchants William and Alexander Macomb who were brothers.
		The original 1894 Grosse Ile lighthouse resembled a water tower on stilts as it was constructed on wooden pilings along with a 170 foot (52 m) walkway to shore.
