Groton School trustees indicted - The Boston Globe
The trustees of the elite Groton School were indicted by a Middlesex County grand jury yesterday for allegedly failing to report a complaint by a 16-year-old in 1999 that he had been sexually assaulted by fellow students.
But a spokeswoman for the school, Karen Schwartzman, vehemently denied that Groton had broken any laws, saying that in the spring of 1999 it called DSS on three occasions to say that three students had reported that they were assaulted by other students in 1996.
Groton never filed written reports, as the law requires, because DSS told the school that the students had turned 18 and that the reports "would be discarded," Schwartzman said in an interview.

As you consider boarding schools you may not think attending a school with tradition is important to you (I'm sure I would have thought that).
Groton definitely helped me "succeed" (at least in my own view), and has given me a sense of independence, confidence, and understanding I don't believe I would have gotten at public school.
I think the school has developed a lot in these areas since I graduated (e.g., new buildings for visual arts and theater), so my views on these subjects is definitely not as valid as those of recent graduates.

 Jonathan Ambrosino: Groton School
Completed in November 1935, the Aeolian-Skinner organ at the Groton School is the prototype of G. Donald Harrison’s American Classic organ.
At the behest of organist Edward B. Gammons, who came to the School in 1941, the instrument seems to have been viewed as a laboratory: an instrument whose core was not to be tinkered with, but whose details might be periodically adjusted.
As the prototype, Groton was the blank wall before any ivy could crawl, and by 1944 Harrison’s ideas had evolved to encompass thin ‘Baroque’ reeds, Great flute choruses to relate to the positiv for trio work, and a different approach altogether to positiv sections.
