Softball - Facts, Information, and Encyclopedia Reference article
Softball is a team sport in which a ball, eleven to twelve inches in circumference, is thrown by a player called a pitcher and hit by an offensive player called a batter with a round, smooth stick called a bat.
The ball is always pitched (thrown to the batter) underarm – that is, it is released when the hand is below the hip and no further from the body than the elbow – while in baseball the ball may be released in any position and is usually thrown overarm or sidearm.
The core of the ball may be made of long fibre kapok, or a mixture of cork and rubber, or a polyurethane mixture, or another approved material.

When an infielder picks up a ball from the ground hit by the batter, he must throw it to the first baseman before the batter gets to the base for the batter to be out.
Common pitches include a fastball, which is the ball thrown at a maximum velocity; a curveball, which is made to curve by rotation imparted by the pitcher; and a change-up, which is a slower version of a fastball.
The number of balls and strikes thrown to the current batter is known as the count; the count is always given balls first, then strikes (such as 3-2 or "three and two", which would be 3 balls and 2 strikes).

Drafted out of a Oregon HS in the 17th round of the 2003 draft and rated as the 5th best prospect in the state by Baseball America, Pry signed with the Tribe one week before classes were scheduled to begin at the University of Hawaii where he had a commitment to play college ball.
Whether the Indians actually voided the contract or, more likely, reduced his signing bonus, Pry eventually did sign with the Indians, underwent Tommy John surgery in 2004, made his pro debut in Burlington last year, posting a 5.87 ERA in 15 appearances out of the bullpen, and then decided to hang it up this spring.
