Use a "before-after" example of a group assignment from one of our colleague's classes to illustrate why the effectiveness of group activities is so closely tied to their impact on group cohesiveness.
These are that members of new and/or temporary groups are typically more concerned about their own personal image than that of the group and also see themselves as having little to lose if the group fails to perform effectively.
By contrast, when groups are asked to select a single best choice based on specific criteria and know that other groups have been given the same assignment, members are likely to engage in an intense give-and-take discussion of why any given choice is better than another.

 The Acts that Established Apartheid
This act was the vanguard of the the apartheid acts that were passed in the 1950's.
This act led to massive relocations of fl and colored populations to townships outside the cities.
This act allowed any police officer at or above the rank of lieutenant colonel to "detain for interrogation" any person suspected of "terrorism." Since terrorism was not really defined, this act had massive potential for abuse; torture of suspects became common during this period, and the number of deaths in detention increased dramatically.

ACT Research : Information Brief 2001-2
In a group of about 69,000 students, those who reported spending two or more hours taking practice tests prior to taking the test the first time earned ACT Composite scores that averaged almost 1/2 scale score point higher than the scores of those who did not take practice tests.
ACT research shows that several things are related to increased ACT Composite scores on a second testing.
If students plan to take the ACT again, it may be helpful for them to look at their current score reports to identify relatively weak areas for additional study and review.

The ACT Centers are located primarily at community colleges because of their proximity to population areas and their commitment to serving individuals and employers through education and training programs.
ACT's goal is to place ACT Centers in as many locations as possible to provide individuals, employers, and professional associations easy access to their services.
The ACT Center will serve as the "corporate university" for many small and medium-size businesses that are interested in keeping their workforce competitive, but that lack the technology or financial resources to develop and administer their own training programs.

ACT Information for Secondary Educators: Test Preparation Solutions
ACT firmly believes that the most important prerequisite for optimum performance by students on the ACT tests is a sound, comprehensive educational program.
ACT believes, therefore, that the most effective preparation for students who want to score well on the tests is to apply themselves fully to the learning activities provided as part of their school's program.
Because the ACT tests are designed to measure the level of educational development of students at the time they take the tests, the ACT tests are sensitive to students' learning throughout their high school educational programs.

Group Areas Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Group Areas Act of 1950 (Act No. 41 of 1950) was an act of parliament created under the apartheid government of South Africa that assigned races to different residential and business sections in urban areas.
The effect of the law was essentially to exclude any non-White from being allowed to live in established towns or to live and work in any established economically viable areas - all of which were proclaimed to be White areas.
This act was finally repealed 41 years later, on June 5, 1991 — at the same time as the Land Act of 1913 (see apartheid).
