 UW Symphony to tour Spain later this month (May 15, 2001)
The Symphony Orchestra is preparing for a 13-day tour of Spain, departing Monday, May 21, and returning Saturday, June 2.
This will be only the second international tour for the orchestra; in the spring of 1998, it toured central and eastern Europe, performing in Austria, Hungary, and the Czech and Slovak republics.
The 100 musicians on the current tour are drawn from the Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra.

That’s where he seems to have made his first bow as a composer, thanks to the premiere of his Batik for chamber ensemble in 1926, and in San Antonio he also began to lose the struggle with alcohol that would plague him for the rest of his life.
Revueltas accepted, and his affiliation with the orchestra did much to jump-start his largely unrealized instincts as a composer.
He was fascinated with the unrolling tragedy of the Spanish Civil War and devastated when word arrived of the death of the poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, executed by the Spanish Falangists in August 1936.
