The Guardian (Jim Harper) is a DC Comics costumed hero.
He was aided by a group of boys known as The Newsboy Legion, to whom he was, literally, a guardian.
This Guardian disappeared along with the rest of Cadmus following an altercation with Amanda Waller and President Luthor, and his whereabouts are unknown.

DC added a new book to its slate with Flash Comics, an anthology featuring the Flash, Hawkman, and others, and narrowly beating to the presses a book from Fawcett Publishing by the same title, which then was published under the title of Whiz Comics.
DC's slate of heroes grew by leaps and bounds with the additions of both the Spectre, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster after Jerry was mugged in New York and Dr. Fate in the pages of, ironically, More Fun Comics.
DC during this period invented the concept of Infinite Earths in order to explain the differences between the then already classic characters of the 40's and those of the then present.

In comic books of the early 1940s, a lot of people think the best kid gangs were the ones by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, creators of Captain America, Young Romance and many other influential comics.
DC Comics, publisher of Star Spangled, showed such confidence in the new feature that they put it on the cover, permanently displacing the title's original stars, The Star-Spangled Kid & Stripesy.
Decades later, Kirby returned to DC and used the boys, now grown and working on a large genetics research project, as supporting characters (along with their sons, who were a lot like they'd been as kids).
