US military officials refuse to say how many attacks their troops face on a daily basis in which soldiers are neither injured nor killed, but some sources suggest that there have been more than a dozen such strikes a day in the past week.

The US will deploy advanced Patriot interceptor missiles on Japanese soil this year for the first time as the region braces itself for a possible test launch by North Korea of an intercontinental ballistic missile, local media reports said today.
Under the agreement, reached this month, US bases on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa will host US Patriot advanced capability-3 missiles, which are said to be capable of intercepting ballistic missiles of the type being developed by Pyongyang, as well as cruise missiles and aircraft.
US and Japanese naval forces successfully tested the missile interceptor off Hawaii last week, although they denied it had been conducted in response to fears about an imminent test launch by North Korea.

Catholic Culture : Document Library : Guardian Angels
Let us cultivate an appreciation of the attention given us by a spirit who abides continuously before the face of God and strive to awaken in our souls a consciousness of the angelic presence.
The care with which God provides angelic guardians for our benefit and yet does not violate by their presence the dignity of our human nature should lead us to great respect for our own souls and for the souls of others.
Though our heavenly guardian, ever attentive to our welfare, is always watching over us, we are usually unaware of his presence and fail to appreciate his care.

Indeed, the US should be in the vanguard of vigorously promoting the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, respect for sovereignty, and the right to self-determination.
Successive US administrations have seemed intent on defining the choices that every nation makes and in their dealings with the Caribbean on certain issues they have often moved from asking nations to assist the US to demanding that they follow the rules that America has defined.
If the US wants the Caribbean to be a willing partner in the fight against terrorism, money laundering, illegal drugs and illegal immigration, there must be a fundamental reform it how it deals with the region on matters that may be of lesser importance to America but crucial to us.

Guardian | US returns to nuclear energy
The US has not revealed the scale of its proposed reinvestment in nuclear power, but Mr Cheney has not concealed in recent weeks that he is determined to give it a prominent role in the report of his energy policy taskforce, which he is due to hand to George Bush later this month.
His report is expected to call on the US to build at least 5 new power plants a year for the foreseeable future to create enough energy to avert the power cuts which have plagued California this year and are expected in parts of north-eastern US, including New York City, this summer.
It is being encouraged by Department of the Trade and Industry officials, who have long been known to favour the expansion of nuclear power, despite the current government policy of letting the industry fade away as the plants reach the end of their design life.
