  Guayape Valley Agricultural Development Project
The Guayape Valley Agricultural Development project is within a 90,000 hectare area of rich agricultural land northeast of the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa.
The Guayape project, which is being implemented by Deloitte Emerging Markets in Canada, has expanded the sources of credit to farmers by supporting credit unions and other financial institutions focussed on small-scale producers.
This new and dynamic economy that is evolving in the Guayape Valley has benefited families such as the Cascos.

Elevations in the footwall block of the Boquerón fault are highest in the east, near the intersection with the Guayape fault and decrease to the west.
The geometric relationship between this fault and the Guayape fault is similar to the one between the Boquerón fault and the Guayape fault.
The Guayape fault may be serving as the boundary between the western part of Central America that is rotating around the Yucatán Peninsula and the rest that is tied to the semi-rigid Caribbean Plate.

In 1967, the Guayape River valley was indicated as the centre of a major colonization effort (C.W. Minkel 1967), and in 1980 an allweather road connecting Juticalpa and Tegucigalpa was finished.
At present a plan for the "integrated rural development" of the Guayape valley is being proposed by the Department of Hydraulic Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resourcs, but this plan is concerned mainly with the development of irrigation that will tap the enormous underground aquifers.
During the rainy season of 1984, in September, the several major rivers of Olancho, the Guayape, Guayambre, and Patuca were observed to be extremely muddy, almost certainly as a result of farm land clearance in the upper reaches of the rivers.

However, experts believe the Guayape skulls may be older than those found at Talgua, which are dated to 1000 B.C. “We don’t know exactly, but preliminarily, we would say that due to the characteristics they have, the skulls are at least dated to 1500 B.C.,” said Fajardo.
She said that although many of the Guayape artifacts are now under official protection, she is concerned that removing them from the cave has already altered the quality of the evidence they provide.
