 Historic Wellington Building - Guelph City Realty Limited Corporate Office
It succeeded the "old" Wellington which had been located at the southern end of the block from 1846 to 1876.
Guelph contractor F.J. Chubb was responsible for the masonry work on the building; the architect was Victor Stewart who was active in Guelph during the 1870s.
The "new" Wellington Hotel served the travelling public, under various owners, until July 1975 when a raging fire left the building without a roof and a with a sadly damaged interior.

GUELPH, Ontario, February 26, 2004 — Four projects that will create 94 units of affordable housing for low-income people in Wellington - Guelph were allocated more than $2.3 million under the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program.
"The County of Wellington, in conjunction with the City of Guelph, has taken the lead in providing financial assistance to new rental housing starts, and we are pleased that senior levels of government are supporting these critical housing projects," said Lynda White, Warden of Wellington County.
Today's federal and provincial allocation will be complemented by more than $1.8 million in the County of Wellington and the City of Guelph's capital funding plus other municipal financial incentives, and $170,000 provided by non-profit organizations to help support the creation of this housing.

In creating Guelph in an unsettled block of wilderness, Galt acted on behalf of the Canada Company, a gigantic land speculation and settlement enterprise he'd successfully promoted in Britain.
