He would not only turn into the icon of 20th century revolutionary struggle, but also attempt to reproduce the experiences made in Cuba in the form of a rather loose ensemble of theoretical reflections, thereby developing outlines of both of a theory of revolution and a conception of socialism come to be known as 'Guevarism'.
Another proponent of Guevarism was the French intellectual Régis Debray, who could be seen as attempting to establish a coherent, unitary theoretical framework on these grounds.
It was criticized from a revolutionary anarchist perspective by Abraham Guillen, one of the leader tacticians of urban guerrilla in Uruguay and Brazil.

 Characterising the USFI Today
It fails to capture the living reality of the contradictions of post-war Stalinism, of which Guevarism is but one example, and therefore fails to correctly estimate the extent of the errors of the Mandelites.
The persistence of formal logic in the thinking of the left led many to conclude that Guevarism was a kind of centrist break from counter-revolutionary Stalinism.
If the Mandelites reacted formalistically to Guevarism, then it has to be said that the FIT Declaration reacted formalistically in its assessment of the Guevarist adventures of the Mandelites.

In fact, a number of serious books and films on Che are in the works, and a few–Paco Ignacio Taibo's sensitive account of Che's ill-fated African campaign, and a Swiss documentary on Che's last days in Bolivia–are already out and in circulation.
In a widely circulated essay which will surely boost the sales of his soon-to-be-published book, Debray paints a personally and politically damning portrait of the famed guerrilla of whom he was once so fond.
In two books which achieved a wide circulation, Castroism, the Long March of Latin America, and Revolution in the Revolution?, Debray affirmed that the only possible and authentic revolutionary path was the guerrilla foco.

 On Che Guevara - www.communistvoice.org
Instead, since the mid-60s, Guevarism has often been promoted as an alleged alternative to the bankrupt policies of the phony "communist" parties led by the state-capitalist leaders of the former Soviet Union.
It is no coincidence that Guevarism downplays theory while basing its strategy and tactics on the most shallow estimate of the social conditions.
While Che supported the armed struggle, this did not mean he was able to break out of the overall outlook of fashionable revisionist doctrine.

Paul Blackledge traces Anderson's 'evolution towards that early radicalism with an eye to the ideas and events that influenced his idiosyncratic interpretation of Trotskyism, so as to make sense of, and immanently criticise, his later trajectory and his contemporary political perspective'.
And what a trajectory - from reformism to Guevarism, Maoism to Trotskyism, before returning to reformism.
A stout opponent of poststructuralism and a consistent anti-imperialist throughout, he is now back at the helm of New Left Review.

Guevarism seeks to have a shortcut to a "one stage revoltion" that sets up a state capitalist society where people are quickly put back to the grindstone and a few "heros of the revolution" are promoted as the only ones moral enough to rule.

So it is useless to drag the red herrings of “foquismo,” “guevarism,” fetishisation of “rural guerilla warfare,” not to speak of the “strategy of terrorism” into the discussion, because nobody is defending these propositions inside the world Trotskyist movement.
Under these conditions, there is no purpose in pursuing the debate on “focism” and “guevarism” which nobody defends inside the Fourth International, instead of discussing the ideas of the majority as they are expressed by the comrades speaking for the majority itself.
Although none of the comrades who polemicise against the position adopted by the 9th World Congress openly tried to refute this overall assessment, we have, however, come across an attempt to question it in a covert and indirect way.

Sri Lanka: JVP grovels to the Bush administration
A recent meeting in Colombo between the representatives of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and top US officials has exposed the sham character of the Sri Lankan party’s anti-imperialist rhetoric and socialist posturing.
The JVP or National Liberation Front was formed in the 1960s by appealing to impoverished rural youth in the south of the island with a radical ideological brew mixed from Maoism, Guevarism and Sinhala communalism.
Today it is part of a bourgeois government for the first time—a junior partner to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, a pillar of Sri Lankan capitalism—and several ministerial posts are held by JVP members.

Our obssessive preoccupation with the crisis of Guevarism made us believe that the 1968 French May Events were historic events of a very limited nature: they were more important to our perceived interests in Africa in revealing to us that Jean-Paul Sartre had shifted from Existentialism to Marxism in a definitive way.
In his opening remarkable first paragraph to the book, Debray theorized a new understanding of history which seemed to confirm to us what Fanon had observed in Studies in a Dying Colonialism: that history as it moves forward seems simultaneously to be moving backward.
We were startled to learn that Guevara had actually fought in the Congo in 1965, in an attempt to overthrow the CIA sponsored fascist dictatorship of Mobutu.

Recent events in Chile, where a rightwing, U.S.-supported coup overturned a popularly elected and progressive government, remind us that TERRA EM TRANSE was made after a similar coup, also U.S.-supported, deposed Brazilian president Joao Goulart in 1964.
When it first appeared, the film was widely misread as a romantic endorsement of Guevarism.
The film’s final shot of Paolo with upraised rifle was interpreted as a call for the kind of armed guerilla struggle that led Che Guevara and Fidel Castro to victory in Cuba.

 Castroism - Red Wiki
Also called Fidelism and Guevarism, Castroists believe that the bourgeois capitalist state must be overthrown in order to create a socialist alternative.
Instead of leading the masses through a vanguard party, however, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara developed the idea of focoism: acts of guerilla warfare and heroism by a small band of warriors against the establishment will inspire the masses to support and join the revolution.

His disastrous campaigns in the Congo and Bolivia are painstakingly presented, based on hitherto unpublished diaries and first hand accounts from those who were active with him and even those who were responsible for his death.
Anderson’s book allows us to understand more exactly both the man and the ideology of "Guevarism", the nature of the "Marxism" Che evolved towards from the mid-1950s to his death.
Ernesto Guevara was born on 14 May 1928 in Rosario, Argentina, into a family of Cuban aristocratic background which had fallen on hard times.

In later years there was a Turkish organisation that used to frequent the London May Day marches equipped with flags emblazoned with Che's face, but I don't remember anything else.

Quoting extensively from Fanon's masterpiece, The Wretched of the Earth, this film attempted to theorize the living experience of Third Worldism within the historical coordinates of the Cuban Revolution.
Situated within the specificity of Argentina, the film examined the legacy of Peronism, and clearly stated why Guevarism was the fundamental Latin American ideology of the 1960s.
The Hour of the Furnaces is, beyond question, the classic of Third World Cinema.

If one looks at the history of the Italian left, particularly post-1968, we find a revolutionary left founded on a curious mixture of Guevarism, Maoism and orthodox Trotskyism.
Organisations such as Lotta Continua and Avanguardia Operaia had become by the 1970s the largest revolutionary organisations in Europe.
